Busan Metropolitan City Donates Goods Purchased with Official Airline Mileage

Busan Metropolitan City, led by Mayor Chun Jae-soo, announced that it held a donation ceremony for goods purchased with official airline mileage at 10:00 a.m. yesterday, July 29, in the International Protocol Room at Busan City Hall. At the ceremony, goods worth KRW 15 million, purchased with airline mileage accrued through official overseas travel, were donated to child welfare facilities in Busan.

The ceremony was organized to make better use of small balances of official airline mileage that are difficult to redeem and mileage scheduled to expire, promote a culture of integrity in public service through the transparent and responsible management of public resources, and support the daily needs of children from vulnerable groups.

From May 26 to June 19, the city conducted an Official Airline Mileage Utilization Campaign for employees holding official airline mileage and used the accumulated mileage to purchase the donated goods.

The event was attended by the Director-General of the Tourism and MICE Bureau and the President of the Busan Metropolitan City Association of Child Welfare, among others. The program included the presentation of the donated goods and a commemorative photo session.

The donation consisted of approximately 670 items in more than 80 categories, including household essentials such as detergent and toothpaste, as well as small home appliances such as electric fans and vacuum cleaners. The total estimated value of the goods is KRW 15 million. The items will be delivered to child welfare facilities in Busan through the Busan Metropolitan City Association of Child Welfare.

Na Yoon-bin, Director-General of the Tourism and MICE Bureau, said, “We will continue to manage official airline mileage transparently and responsibly, foster a culture of integrity in public service, and ensure that public resources are put to meaningful use in the local community.”

“I hope the goods purchased with official airline mileage will be delivered to child welfare facilities in need and make even a modest contribution to improving welfare in the community,” he added.
