Mayor Chun Jae-soo Meets with Chinese Ambassador to the Republic of Korea Dai Bing

Busan Metropolitan City announced that Mayor Chun Jae-soo met with Dai Bing, Chinese Ambassador to the Republic of Korea, at 1:20 p.m. yesterday, July 28, in the International Protocol Room at City Hall. They discussed ways to expand exchanges and cooperation between Busan and China in a wide range of fields, including economy and trade, maritime affairs, and tourism.

Mayor Chun began by saying, “I sincerely welcome Ambassador Dai to Busan despite his busy schedule. With exchanges between Busan and China becoming increasingly active, I hope this visit will serve as an opportunity to expand cooperation between the local governments of our two countries.”

He continued, “The foundation for exchanges between Busan and China is expanding further, with China Eastern Airlines recently launching a new Busan-Nanjing route and Loong Air opening a new Busan-Hangzhou route. I hope the people of both countries will be able to travel more conveniently and deepen mutual understanding and friendship.”

Mayor Chun also said, “Busan has established friendly cooperative relationships with major Chinese port cities, including Shanghai, Tianjin, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen, and continues to maintain active exchanges with them. As China plays a leading role in the port sector, I hope the local governments of our two countries will further expand cooperation by sharing policies and data related to maritime and port affairs.”

He added, “We are grateful that many Chinese tourists have recently been visiting Busan. Building on this momentum, we will further improve tourism infrastructure and address inconveniences such as excessive pricing and unfriendly service. We will do our utmost to ensure that all visitors, including Chinese tourists, can travel safely and conveniently throughout Busan.”

Ambassador Dai responded, “I appreciate the warm hospitality extended by Busan Metropolitan City. As relations between Korea and China have recently been developing in an encouraging direction, I hope exchanges and cooperation between the local governments of our two countries will also continue to expand.”

He continued, “Economic cooperation between our two countries will evolve through cooperation amid competition and competition amid cooperation. We need to identify new drivers of cooperative growth in emerging fields such as artificial intelligence and advanced industries.”

He also said, “Busan is one of Korea’s leading port cities and a beautiful tourism destination. I hope that more Chinese tourists will visit Busan through initiatives such as the expansion of cruise tourism.”

Concluding the meeting, Mayor Chun said, “Exchanges between Busan and China provide an important foundation for the shared development of both regions and for greater mutual understanding. I hope we will continue working closely with the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in the Republic of Korea to build a future-oriented cooperative relationship founded on mutual trust.”
