Expanding Busan's Essential Pediatric Healthcare System Through Integration with Moonlight Children's Hospitals

Busan Metropolitan City, led by Mayor Chun Jae-soo, announced that two additional medical institutions in Busan have been selected in the second-half additional round of the Ministry of Health and Welfare's "Support Project for Nighttime and Holiday Pediatric Care Providers in Underserved Areas" and will begin operations in sequence.

As a result, Busan Metropolitan City will operate a total of four nighttime and holiday pediatric care providers in underserved areas, including the two institutions selected during the first half of the year. This will further accelerate efforts to eliminate gaps in nighttime and holiday pediatric care in areas where Moonlight Children's Hospitals are not available.

The institutions selected in the first half of the year are W365 Medical Clinic in Nam-gu and Ilsin Christian Hospital in Dong-gu.

The two newly selected institutions are I Love Pediatrics Clinic in Busanjin-gu and Nameun Pediatrics Clinic in Buk-gu. They will begin operations today (July 27) and on August 3, respectively.

Both institutions will provide at least 20 hours of nighttime and holiday outpatient pediatric services each week based on local healthcare needs, helping fill gaps in nighttime and holiday pediatric care in areas without Moonlight Children's Hospitals.

In particular, this initiative is designed to enable local hospitals and clinics to build experience in providing nighttime and holiday pediatric care, thereby establishing a foundation for their future expansion or transition into Moonlight Children's Hospitals. Busan Metropolitan City plans to continuously monitor operational performance and promote the phased expansion of Moonlight Children's Hospitals.

Meanwhile, Busan Metropolitan City is also continuing to expand the number of Moonlight Children's Hospitals alongside the increase in underserved-area care providers.

Since June 1, Hanna Hospital in Suyeong-gu has begun operating as a new Moonlight Children's Hospital, strengthening the foundation for holiday pediatric care in the southern part of the city. In addition, Jeonggwan Woori Children's Hospital in Gijang-gun continues to provide stable 24-hour, 365-day medical services.

By linking Moonlight Children's Hospitals with nighttime and holiday pediatric care providers in underserved areas, Busan Metropolitan City plans to gradually expand its essential pediatric healthcare system in line with the medical needs of each region and continue reducing regional disparities in healthcare services.

Cho Gyu-yul, Director General of the Citizens' Health Bureau, said, "Above all, it is important for parents raising children to feel confident that they can receive pediatric care in Busan even at night or on holidays. We will continue expanding both Moonlight Children's Hospitals and nighttime and holiday pediatric care providers in underserved areas to reduce regional healthcare disparities and further strengthen the Busan-style essential pediatric healthcare system so that both parents and children can feel secure."
