Busan Metropolitan City to Host the 2026 Busan Professional Engineers Association Technical Seminar: “Science and Technology Shape the Nation’s Future”

Busan Metropolitan City, led by Mayor Chun Jae-soo, announced that it will hold the 2026 Busan Professional Engineers Association Technical Seminar today, July 24, at 1:00 p.m. in the International Conference Room at Busan City Hall. The event aims to share future science and technology trends and promote the wider adoption of smart construction practices.

Hosted by Busan Metropolitan City and organized by the Busan Professional Engineers Association, the seminar is expected to bring together approximately 300 construction engineers, public officials, and other stakeholders from Busan, Ulsan, and Gyeongsangnam-do.

Under the theme “Science and Technology Shape the Nation’s Future,” the seminar will examine changes and prospects in the technology industry in the era of artificial intelligence, a key issue across today’s industrial sector. It will also facilitate broad discussions on the latest smart technologies that can be immediately applied at construction sites and practical examples involving different construction methods.

At the opening ceremony, mayoral commendations will be presented to individuals who have contributed to the advancement of Busan’s municipal administration and cooperation in the field of construction technology.

An Young-ho, CEO of Daeyoung Structural Engineering Group Co., Ltd.; Woo Jong-yeol, CEO of Hill Engineering Co., Ltd.; and Lee Jong-gi, Vice President of the Korea Disaster Prevention and Safety Institute Co., Ltd., have been selected as recipients in recognition of their contributions.

Beginning with a keynote lecture on technologies associated with the Fourth Industrial Revolution, presentations will be delivered across a range of specialized fields, including architecture, geotechnical engineering, landscape architecture, mechanical engineering, and fire protection. The seminar is expected to provide a meaningful opportunity to share knowledge on the advancement of construction technology and worksite safety management.

The program will proceed in the following order: “Changes and Prospects in the Technology Industry in the Era of Artificial Intelligence,” the keynote lecture; “Application Strategies and Case Analysis of Smart Technologies at Construction Sites”; “Long-Term Settlement Characteristics of Soft Ground in Western Busan and Management Strategies Based on Instrumentation and Back Analysis”; “Introduction and Expansion of Outdoor Deck Construction Methods and Areas for Improvement”; “Development of a Construction Management Process for the Lift-Up Method for Large Steel Structures”; and “Strategies for Establishing a Fire Safety Philosophy at Chemical Plants and Practical Cases of Gap Analysis.”

Baek Myeong-gi, Director General of the Urban Planning Bureau of Busan Metropolitan City, said, “The introduction of science and technology and smart construction methods is essential to ensuring safety at construction sites and enabling Busan to advance as a future-oriented city.”

He added, “We hope this seminar will further strengthen the capabilities of engineers throughout Busan, Ulsan, and Gyeongsangnam-do and serve as a forum for developing practical solutions that improve both efficiency and safety at construction sites.”
