A Happier Busan, Shaped by Everyone… Busan Metropolitan City to Hold Launch Ceremony for the 2026 Busan Metropolitan City Children’s Participation Council

Busan Metropolitan City, led by Mayor Chun Jae-soo, announced that it will hold the launch ceremony for the 2026 Busan Metropolitan City Children’s Participation Council at 10:00 a.m. tomorrow, July 25, in the Grand Conference Room on the first floor of City Hall. The event is intended to advance children’s rights.

The Children’s Participation Council is an initiative that recognizes children as rights holders and guarantees their right to participate by fostering a social environment that listens to their voices.

Through discussions, proposals, and democratic communication activities, participating children can develop a more concrete interest in their local community, strengthen their ability to identify problems, and enhance their capabilities as rights holders.

Since May, Busan Metropolitan City has recruited council members through an open online application process for children under the age of 18 residing in Busan. A total of 51 children were selected.

The launch ceremony will be the council’s first activity of the year. Approximately 100 people, including council members, university student volunteers serving as activity supporters, parents, and representatives of relevant organizations, are expected to attend. The program will provide opportunities to learn about children’s rights and build teamwork among the members.

The ceremony will include an introduction to the initiative, presentation of appointment certificates, a pledge by child representatives, education on children’s rights, an orientation, and small-group meetings by division.

Following the launch ceremony, members will take part in group meetings and active discussions on six agenda items related to children’s right to health. Through this process, they will develop programs and policies reflecting a wide range of views for children in Busan.

The six agenda items are safety, addiction prevention, physical health, mental health, digital literacy, and the climate crisis.

Kim So-young, Director General of the Women and Family Affairs Bureau of Busan Metropolitan City, said, “Busan Metropolitan City will fully support children so that their opinions are respected, their voices are heard, and they can live safely and happily.”

“We will make every effort to build a better future for Busan in which children are happy,” she added.
