Busan Metropolitan City Joins Hands with Korea Southern Power and the Busan Regional Office of SMEs and Startups to Support Young People in Securing Their First Career Opportunities

Busan Metropolitan City, led by Mayor Chun Jae-soo, announced that it will sign a memorandum of understanding today (July 21) at 10:20 a.m. in the City Hall Video Conference Room with Korea Southern Power Co., Ltd. and the Busan Regional Office of SMEs and Startups to promote the “Busan Youth Shared Growth Partnership First Career Guarantee Pilot Project.”

The signing ceremony will be attended by Mayor Chun Jae-soo, Kim Joon-dong, President of Korea Southern Power Co., Ltd., Lee Cheong-il, Commissioner of the Busan Regional Office of SMEs and Startups, and other officials.

The “Busan Youth Shared Growth Partnership First Career Guarantee Pilot Project” is a Busan-style work experience initiative designed to help young people build meaningful first career experience at local companies and successfully transition into employment.

Busan Metropolitan City will recruit participating companies and young participants by connecting youth-friendly companies with specialized high schools and junior colleges. Following a “Company–Youth Matching Day,” where job suitability will be assessed, the final participants will be selected.

Selected participants will complete pre-employment job training before undertaking up to four months of practical, workplace-centered experience at youth-friendly companies. They will also receive workplace adaptation support through designated company mentors and onboarding programs.

A key feature of this pilot project is the extension of work experience from the conventional two to three months to four months, allowing participants to gain more substantial hands-on experience. Based on the results of the pilot, Busan Metropolitan City plans to fully implement the “Busan Youth First Career Guarantee Program,” one of the key pledges of the ninth popularly elected municipal administration, beginning next year to provide stable work experience opportunities for up to one year.

Under the agreement, each participating organization will contribute its expertise and resources to implement the project.

Busan Metropolitan City will oversee overall project planning and operation, recruit and select youth-friendly companies, recruit participating youth, provide job training, connect participants with youth policy programs, and manage project performance.

Korea Southern Power Co., Ltd. will provide financial support through its ESG Shared Growth Cooperation Fund, support mentoring by participating companies, operate workplace adaptation onboarding programs, and connect participants with corporate support and shared growth initiatives.

The Busan Regional Office of SMEs and Startups will oversee the Company–Youth Matching Day, connect participating companies with SME support programs such as policy financing and innovation vouchers, and facilitate recruitment linking companies with young job seekers.

Mayor Chun Jae-soo stated, “The greatest need for young people is a first job and the opportunity to build their first career. Creating opportunities for young people to begin their careers in the region is one of the most important tasks for securing Busan’s future.”

He added, “Through this agreement, Busan Metropolitan City, Korea Southern Power, and the Busan Regional Office of SMEs and Startups will work together to provide high-quality work experience and employment opportunities for local youth. Building on the success of this pilot project, we will successfully implement the Busan Youth First Career Guarantee Program, one of the key pledges of the ninth popularly elected municipal administration.”
