Foreign Entrepreneurs with Startup Dreams, Head to Busan… Opening Ceremony Held for the Busan Global Startup Immigration Center

Busan Metropolitan City, led by Mayor Chun Jae-soo, announced that it will hold the opening ceremony for the Busan Global Startup Immigration Center today (July 20) at 2:00 p.m. at the Busan Eurasia Platform.

The Global Startup Immigration Center is an institution that provides the OASIS (Overall Assistance for Startup Immigration System) program, offering entrepreneurship education, mentoring, and related support for foreign nationals who wish to launch startups in Korea.

The Busan center, designated through a public competition organized by the Ministry of Justice as the first center of its kind in the southeastern region, is operated exclusively by the Busan Startup Investment Agency.

Approximately 50 participants are expected to attend the opening ceremony, including Kim Hyun-chae, Commissioner of the Busan Immigration Office; Lee Cheong-il, Commissioner of the Busan Regional Office of SMEs and Startups; Kim Yong-woo, President and CEO of the Busan Center for Creative Economy & Innovation; representatives from related organizations; and foreign prospective and current entrepreneurs participating in the OASIS program.

The event will be held in two sessions.

The first session will include the presentation of the center designation certificate, a progress report and future operational plan, and an unveiling ceremony for the center's signboard.

The second session will feature a special lecture by Kazimi Agosu, founder of the Korean employment platform for foreigners ACAFO and a foreign recruitment strategy expert, followed by a networking session for participants.

Until recently, Global Startup Immigration Centers had been concentrated in Seoul. However, in line with the government's balanced national development policy, the program has expanded to regional areas since last year.

Currently, seven centers are in operation nationwide, including four in Seoul and one each in Jeonbuk, Chungbuk, and Busan. Since May, the Busan Startup Investment Agency, which operates the Busan center, has proactively provided entrepreneurship education and one-on-one mentoring for foreign entrepreneurs.

During the second half of the year, Busan Metropolitan City will continue to operate a step-by-step support program that includes entrepreneurship education, mentoring, business incubation, corporate establishment assistance, and commercialization support. Program participants will receive points toward obtaining the Technology Startup Visa (D-8-4), as well as recommendation letters, helping talented foreign entrepreneurs establish themselves in the region.

The city also plans to actively integrate the Global Startup Immigration Center with the global startup ecosystem it has built around the Asia Startup Expo, leveraging its collaborative network of ecosystem partners, overseas investors, and startup support organizations to further develop Busan into a global startup hub.
