A Special Exhibition Showcasing the History of Busan City Buses Opens

Busan Metropolitan City, led by Mayor Chun Jae-soo, announced that it will hold a special exhibition on the history of city buses from today (July 20) through July 25 for six days in the City Hall–Metro connecting passage.

To commemorate the 20th anniversary of the introduction of the free transfer system between city buses, first implemented in May 2006, the exhibition will present the history and evolution of Busan's city bus system, which has connected citizens' daily lives for decades.

The exhibition has been organized to highlight the historical value of city buses, which have served not only as a means of transportation but also as an enduring part of citizens' lives and memories, while promoting intergenerational exchange and communication.

The exhibition consists of the "City Bus History Zone," the "City Bus Enthusiast Zone," and the "Citizen Experience Zone."

The "City Bus History Zone" introduces historical photographs of city buses from different eras along with major milestones in their development. Visitors can explore the evolution of fare payment methods, the introduction of transportation cards, the implementation of the free transfer system, and other changes that have accompanied citizens' everyday lives.

The "City Bus Enthusiast Zone" features city bus models created by paper model artist Ryu Hwang-byeol. In the "Citizen Experience Zone," visitors can take commemorative photos in a recreated bus driver's seat and leave messages for Busan's city buses on the City Bus Message Wall.

In addition, interactive promotional events using traditional paper bus tickets will be held on the opening day, July 20, and the closing day, July 25. Visitors who receive paper bus tickets through exhibition activities and hands-on experiences can participate in a roulette event to win a variety of commemorative gifts.

Hwang Hyun-cheol, Director General of the Transportation Innovation Bureau, said, "City buses are a representative form of public transportation that has grown alongside the daily lives of our citizens and the development of the city. We hope this exhibition will provide an opportunity for citizens to reflect on the history and value of city buses and inspire us all to work together to create an even more convenient and safer public transportation system."
