Museum in Summer: “Logging into the Joseon Royal Court: The World of Records and Symbols”

Busan Museum announced that it will operate “Museum in Summer: Logging into the Joseon Royal Court: The World of Records and Symbols,” an educational program linked to the special exhibition “Records and Culture of Joseon: To Be Passed Down for Ten Thousand Generations,” for families with elementary school students from July 30 through August 2.

The program has been designed in conjunction with the special exhibition to promote a deeper understanding of the cultural heritage of the Joseon royal court while providing families with an opportunity to enjoy a variety of educational and hands-on experiences together.

The program will be offered twice a day over four days, from July 30 to August 2, at 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Each session will last 90 minutes, for a total of eight sessions. Each session will accommodate 15 families (30 participants) accompanied by elementary school students in Grades 1 through 6.

The educational program focuses on the cultural heritage and royal symbols featured in the special exhibition and includes a variety of hands-on activities, such as learning about the record-keeping culture of the Joseon royal court, exploring exhibition artifacts, completing exhibition missions, and creating a keycap stamp using royal symbolic motifs.

The program begins with a presentation in the education room introducing UNESCO Memory of the World documentary heritage, including the Annals of the Joseon Dynasty and the Uigwe, as well as royal symbols such as royal portraits and royal seals. Through this session, participating families will gain an engaging and accessible understanding of Joseon's record-keeping culture, through which the nation was governed, and the significance of the symbols of the royal court.

Participants will then move to the special exhibition gallery to observe major artifacts, including the Annals of the Joseon Dynasty, the Uigwe, royal portraits, and the Eastern Palace Map, while completing exhibition missions. Using activity worksheets, they will identify records and symbols within the artifacts, helping them naturally understand the meaning and value of the Joseon royal court's cultural heritage.

The program concludes with a hands-on activity to create a keycap stamp inspired by the royal seal, a symbol of the authority and legitimacy of the Joseon royal court. Participants will design their own keycap stamps using royal symbolic motifs featured on the royal seal, including the turtle as well as peonies, the sun, and the moon, allowing them to experience and appreciate the cultural heritage of the Joseon royal court through creative participation.

Applications will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis through the Busan Metropolitan City Integrated Reservation System (https://reserve.busan.go.kr/index) from 10:00 a.m. on July 22 to 5:00 p.m. on July 24.
