Busan Metropolitan City Welcomes Princess Anne of the United Kingdom, Reaffirming Korea–UK Friendship and the Significance of Honoring Veterans

Busan Metropolitan City, led by Mayor Chun Jae-soo, announced that on the morning of July 14 at 9:00 a.m., the Mayor welcomed Princess Anne of the United Kingdom at the United Nations Memorial Cemetery in Korea during her visit to Busan to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Battle of the Imjin River in the Korean War.

The visit was arranged to mark the 75th anniversary of the Battle of the Imjin River, one of the fiercest battles of the Korean War, and to pay tribute to the sacrifice of British soldiers who fought in the war by visiting the United Nations Memorial Cemetery in Korea, the world's only United Nations cemetery.

Busan Metropolitan City has continued to expand exchanges with local governments in the United Kingdom. Since signing a Friendship and Cooperation City Agreement with the Liverpool City Region in 2023, the City has maintained collaboration across a wide range of fields, including digital and advanced technology projects, smart cities, ports, and carbon neutrality. The City expects this visit to further strengthen mutual friendship and expand future cooperation between the two sides.

Welcoming Princess Anne, Mayor Chun Jae-soo said, “I sincerely welcome you to Busan and hope you have a pleasant stay during your visit.”

Princess Anne responded, “Thank you for your warm welcome. I am delighted to be here and to meet you.”

The Mayor concluded by saying, “Busan, home to the world's only United Nations cemetery, will continue to remember the dedication of the veterans and pass on their noble spirit to future generations. Building on our strong friendship with the United Kingdom, we will further expand cooperation in various fields, including maritime affairs and ports, while continuing to advance exchanges between our local governments.”
