Building Welfare Statistics That Reflect Citizens' Everyday Lives: Busan Metropolitan City Conducts the 2026 Busan Metropolitan City Welfare Survey

Busan Metropolitan City announced that it will conduct the 2026 Busan Metropolitan City Welfare Survey from today (July 13) through August 14 to collect citizens' opinions on welfare needs and the use of welfare services.

The City conducts the Welfare Survey to examine and analyze the living conditions of Busan residents, as well as their welfare needs and experiences with welfare services, so that the findings can be utilized in various aspects of policy planning and implementation.

The survey is conducted every two years with approval from the national statistical authority.

This year's survey will cover 124 items across eight areas, targeting 2,200 households residing in Busan Metropolitan City.

Survey households were selected using statistical sampling methods.

The survey covers eight areas: household characteristics (household composition), employment and jobs (employment status, job characteristics, and social insurance), health and medical care (health status and activities, medical institution services), housing (length of residence, housing type, housing finance, and public rental housing), household economy (household expenditures and debt, assets and income, welfare benefits, and retirement preparation), family and caregiving (care services, child and adult caregiving, and single-person households), community and quality of life (community participation and leisure activities), and welfare awareness and policy (policy direction, awareness, and satisfaction).

This year, new policy-related questions have been added on the prevention of fraudulent benefit claims, caregiving services including the Busan-style Integrated Care Program, energy assistance for vulnerable groups, charitable giving, support for identifying households in crisis, and reporting and preventing abuse. The City plans to enhance future policy effectiveness by building and utilizing Busan-specific policy data based on the survey results.

The survey will be conducted through face-to-face interviews, with trained interviewers visiting selected households and using tablets and survey questionnaires. In accordance with the Statistics Act, all survey responses will be kept strictly confidential.

The survey results are scheduled to be released in January 2027.

Hwang Soon-gil, Director General of the Social Welfare Bureau, said, "This survey is intended to build welfare statistics for Busan based on citizens' valuable opinions and records of their daily lives. We ask for the active participation of our citizens so that the continuous accumulation and utilization of data can support the development of policies created together with the people of Busan."
