Citizens’ Generosity Creates a Warmer Busan: Busan Metropolitan City to Hold the “Hope 2026 Recognition Ceremony for Distinguished Contributors to Helping Neighbors”

Busan Metropolitan City announced that it will hold the “Hope 2026 Recognition Ceremony for Distinguished Contributors to Helping Neighbors” today (July 7) at 2:00 p.m. in the Main Auditorium of Busan City Hall.

The ceremony has been organized to recognize and express appreciation to citizens, businesses, public institutions, and organizations that have contributed to improving community welfare through continuous charitable activities for neighbors in need, including participation in the “Hope 2026 Sharing Campaign” held last year (2025).

Approximately 120 people will attend the event, including Mayor Chun Jae-soo, Lee Soo-tae, Chair of the Busan Community Chest of Korea, Superintendent of Education Kim Seok-jun, Busan Chamber of Commerce and Industry Chairman Yang Jae-saeng, Dong-gu Mayor Kang Cheol-ho, representatives from the media and social welfare sectors, and award recipients.

The program will begin with a pre-event performance, followed by welcoming remarks, congratulatory speeches, presentation of the Mayor’s Awards, presentation of the Busan Community Chest of Korea Chair’s Awards, a commemorative appreciation video, and a group photograph.

A total of 18 Mayor’s Awards will be presented, including six to public officials, three to individuals, and nine to institutions and organizations. In addition, 38 Chair’s Awards from the Busan Community Chest of Korea will be presented, including awards to six districts and counties, nine individuals, and 23 institutions and organizations.

Among the recipients are Citizen Funeral Hall, which has consistently donated kimchi during the winter season to support people in welfare blind spots; Dongkuk CM Co., Ltd., which has contributed to spreading a culture of sharing by donating funds and goods during major holidays; Korea Electric Power Corporation Busan-Ulsan Headquarters, which has continuously carried out housing improvement projects for veterans’ families since 2010; and Busan Medical Center, which has promoted voluntary employee giving alongside its public healthcare mission. These individuals and organizations were selected in recognition of their outstanding contributions to fostering a culture of generosity in the local community.

In the evaluation of outstanding districts and counties for the “Hope 2026 Sharing Campaign,” Dong-gu was selected as the top-performing local government in the overall assessment, earning the distinction for the third consecutive year. Busanjin-gu and Haeundae-gu received Excellence Awards, while Dongnae-gu, Saha-gu, and Seo-gu received Encouragement Awards.

The “Hope 2026 Sharing Campaign” was conducted over 62 days, from December 1, 2025, to January 31, 2026.

Busan raised KRW 14.21 billion against its fundraising goal of KRW 10.86 billion, achieving 130.9% of its target and ranking first among all 17 metropolitan cities and provinces nationwide in fundraising achievement rate.

Following last year's record-breaking performance, Busan once again surpassed its highest-ever fundraising achievement, demonstrating the meaningful impact of the collective generosity of citizens, businesses, and public institutions.

Because public administration must be closest to the lives of citizens, Busan Metropolitan City will continue working together with our citizens to build a more comprehensive social welfare safety net so that acts of generosity can protect the daily lives of neighbors in need and inspire greater hope.”
