Donation Ceremony for Venezuela Earthquake Relief Funds and Appointment Ceremony for the Honorary Chair of the Community Chest of Korea in Busan to Be Held

Busan Metropolitan City announced that it will hold the Donation Ceremony for Venezuela Earthquake Relief Funds and the Appointment Ceremony for the Honorary Chair of the Community Chest of Korea in Busan today (July 7) at 3:00 p.m. in the Reception Room at Busan City Hall.

The event has been organized to support recovery efforts for the people of Venezuela, who are suffering from the devastating effects of the recent earthquakes, through contributions from Busan’s leading socially responsible companies, while also promoting a culture of sharing among the citizens of Busan. In addition to the donation ceremony, Mayor Chun Jae-soo will be appointed Honorary Chair of the Community Chest of Korea in Busan.

The ceremony will be attended by Mayor Chun Jae-soo, Lee Soo-tae, Chairman of Panasia Co., Ltd. and Chair of the Community Chest of Korea in Busan, as well as former Community Chest Chairs Shin Jung-taek, Chairman of Seun Steel Co., Ltd., and Choi Geum-sik, Chairman of SB Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. Each of the three companies will donate KRW 50 million, for a total of KRW 150 million, to support earthquake recovery efforts and assist displaced residents in Venezuela.

The donated funds will be delivered through the Community Chest of Korea and used for emergency humanitarian relief and recovery efforts in the affected areas.

On June 24, Venezuela was struck by consecutive earthquakes measuring magnitudes 7.2 and 7.5, causing extensive casualties, property damage, and widespread displacement, particularly in the capital city of Caracas and the northern coastal regions. As a result, the international community has continued to provide urgent humanitarian assistance.

Panasia Co., Ltd., Seun Steel Co., Ltd., and SB Shipbuilding Co., Ltd., all participating in this donation, are leading Busan-based companies that have consistently demonstrated corporate social responsibility through financial contributions and a wide range of social contribution activities in response to disasters both in Korea and abroad.

In particular, the heads of all three companies have served as either Chair or former Chair of the Community Chest of Korea in Busan and have played a leading role in fostering a culture of giving throughout the region.

The event will also include the appointment ceremony for Mayor Chun Jae-soo as Honorary Chair of the Community Chest of Korea in Busan.

As Honorary Chair, Mayor Chun will serve as a symbolic representative of the citizens of Busan in promoting a culture of sharing and charitable giving. He will also support major fundraising initiatives, including the Hope Sharing Campaign, as well as a variety of community giving activities.

Mayor Chun Jae-soo is expected to say, “In the face of disaster, neither borders, languages, nor cultures can stand in the way of people helping one another. The generosity demonstrated today by Busan’s businesses will become a source of hope for the people of Venezuela as they rebuild their lives. Just as public administration must remain closest to the lives of its citizens, the spirit of sharing must also reach wherever help is needed.”

He is also expected to add, “As Honorary Chair of the Community Chest of Korea in Busan, I will do my utmost to further expand a culture of giving that brings together citizens, businesses, and the local community, so that Busan’s warm spirit of solidarity extends beyond our citizens and becomes a beacon of hope for people around the world.”
