Busan Metropolitan City announced that its "AI-Based Collaborative Innovation Infrastructure for Integrated Processing, Testing, and Measurement" project has been selected for the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy's 2026 Specialized Industrial Complex Designation and Support Program for Root Industries.

The Specialized Industrial Complex Designation and Support Program for Root Industries is designed to strengthen corporate competitiveness and promote the sustainable growth of regional root industry companies by supporting the establishment of shared facilities and collaborative innovation activities within specialized industrial complexes.

The selected project will be implemented in the Busan Eco-Friendly Vehicle Convergence Specialized Industrial Complex, with the Busan Automobile Parts Industry Cooperative serving as the implementing organization.

The "AI-Based Collaborative Innovation Infrastructure for Integrated Processing, Testing, and Measurement" project aims to establish an AI-based smart quality verification system capable of data-driven precision measurement, testing, and certification to enhance the quality competitiveness of companies producing components for eco-friendly future mobility.

With a total project budget of KRW 800 million this year, the project will establish shared quality verification infrastructure for 31 companies located within the Busan Eco-Friendly Vehicle Convergence Specialized Industrial Complex.

In 2024, the specialized industrial complex established a foundation for design, processing, and prototype production by building shared processing facilities. However, it has faced challenges in advancing product quality due to the lack of precision measurement, testing, and certification equipment needed to verify product dimensions, shape, and surface quality after processing.

Through this project, Busan Metropolitan City plans to establish advanced shared facilities for precision measurement, testing, and certification to verify the quality of products manufactured within the specialized industrial complex. It will also develop a smart quality verification system that analyzes and accumulates collected data using artificial intelligence (AI).

The City expects the project to provide companies in the specialized industrial complex with a one-stop environment covering product development, quality verification, testing, and certification. This is expected to reduce defect rates, improve productivity, and enable companies to effectively meet the quality standards required by global automotive manufacturers.

In addition, the accumulation and utilization of AI-based quality data are expected to promote process improvements and technological advancement while significantly strengthening the competitiveness of the regional eco-friendly future mobility parts industry ecosystem.

Mayor Chun Jae-soo said, "The selection of this project will serve as an important opportunity to further enhance the manufacturing innovation capabilities of Busan's eco-friendly automotive parts industry. Through the establishment of an AI-based quality verification system, we will do our utmost to support local root industry companies so they can proactively respond to changes in global supply chains and the future mobility industry."
