Future Architects, Join the Children's Architecture Festival!

Busan Metropolitan City (Mayor Park Heong-joon) announced that, in partnership with the Busan Chapter of the Korea Institute of Registered Architects (Chair Kang Mi-sook, hereinafter the Busan Architects Association), it will hold the 29th Citizens' Architecture Academy – Children's Architecture Festival with Architects (hereinafter the Children's Architecture Festival) at 8:30 a.m. on July 25 at Sinbaram Hall in Sasang-gu Office.

The Children's Architecture Festival is a special educational and cultural program of the Citizens' Architecture Academy designed to promote architectural culture and foster future talent. Now in its 29th year, the annual event helps elementary school students in Busan gain a proper understanding of architecture while providing opportunities to explore future career paths.

The event is hosted by the Busan Architects Association and jointly organized by Busan Metropolitan City, Pusan National University, the Busan Architects Association, and the Busan International Architecture Festival Organizing Committee.

This year's event will be held under the engaging theme, "Architecture with the Imaginary Sea: Where Will We Live?", providing children with an opportunity to freely express boundless imagination through architecture.

The program begins with an engaging lecture by a practicing architect and continues with age-appropriate activities, including imagination drawing (imaginative collage) for lower-grade elementary students and imaginative model making for upper-grade students, allowing participants to create and build their own unique architectural worlds beyond the boundaries of time and space.

In particular, practicing architects will participate directly, interacting with the children while serving as mentors who introduce the fundamentals of architecture and inspire their imagination.

Judging of the drawings and models created during the event will determine recipients of the Grand Prize, Excellence Award, Special Award, and Honorable Mention.

Eight Grand Prize winners will receive awards presented by the Mayor of Busan Metropolitan City, the Chair of the Busan Metropolitan Council, the Superintendent of the Busan Metropolitan City Office of Education, and the President of Pusan National University.

Recipients of the Excellence Award, Special Award, and Honorable Mention will receive awards from the President of the Korea Institute of Registered Architects, the Executive Director of the Busan International Architecture Festival, the President and CEO of KNN, the Chair of the Busan Branch of the Korean Red Cross, the Chair of the Busan-Ulsan-Gyeongnam Branch of the Architectural Institute of Korea, the President of the Busan Chapter of the Korean Institute of Architects, and the President of the Busan Architects Association.

The winning entries and selected works will also be exhibited at Exhibition Hall 1 of BEXCO during the 2026 Korea Architecture Culture Festival, which will be held from October 27 to October 31.

Applications for the program are open from today (June 29) through July 3 via the Citizens' Architecture Academy website (http://citizenarchi.com). All elementary school students in the Busan area are eligible to apply.
