Busan Metropolitan City to Hold Ceremony Commemorating the 76th Anniversary of the Korean War

Busan Metropolitan City, led by Mayor Park Heong-joon, announced that it will hold the Ceremony Commemorating the 76th Anniversary of the Korean War today (June 25) at 11:00 a.m. in the City Hall Grand Auditorium under the theme “The Heroes Who Defended the Republic of Korea, Shining Across the World.”

The ceremony is hosted by Busan Metropolitan City to reflect on the historical lessons of the Korean War and honor the sacrifice and dedication of Korean War veterans.

Approximately 700 people will attend the ceremony, including Vice Mayor for Administrative Affairs Kim Kyung-duk, Korean War veterans and their bereaved families, heads of major institutions, military personnel, and representatives of veterans’ and civic organizations.

The program will proceed in the following order: the national ceremony, a report on the progress of the Korean War, the presentation of military merit medals, awards for distinguished contributors, a commemorative address, a tribute performance, a singing of the Korean War Memorial Song, and three cheers for the Republic of Korea.

A commemorative photo zone themed “The Heroes Who Defended the Republic of Korea, Shining Across the World” will also be installed at the entrance to the venue to mark the occasion.

In particular, more than 110 Korean War veterans and approximately 100 active-duty personnel from the Army, Navy, and Air Force will attend the ceremony together. The Busan Municipal Children’s and Youth Choir will present a tribute performance, further highlighting the significance of passing on to future generations the legacy of the heroes who defended the Republic of Korea.

In addition, Busan Metropolitan City will hold a luncheon in honor of Korean War veterans this year to express its deepest respect and gratitude for their noble sacrifice.

The event will be attended by approximately 120 people, including Hur Kyung, President of the Busan Branch of the Korean War Veterans Association of the Republic of Korea, leaders of veterans’ organizations, and Korean War veterans.

The luncheon has been arranged to convey respect and appreciation to the patriotic heroes who dedicated themselves to the Republic of Korea, and a special appreciation banquet for Korean War veterans will be held.

In his commemorative address, Vice Mayor for Administrative Affairs Kim Kyung-duk is expected to express his gratitude by saying, “Seventy-six years ago, when the fate of our nation stood at a critical crossroads, our Korean War veterans left behind their families and daily lives and entered the battlefield with the sole determination to defend the Republic of Korea. It is because of your courage and sacrifice that we are able to enjoy the free and peaceful Republic of Korea we have today.”
