Commemoration Ceremony for UN Fallen Soldiers Who Served in the Korean War Marks the 76th Anniversary of the Outbreak of the Korean War

Busan Metropolitan City (Mayor Park Heong-joon) announced that it will hold the “76th Anniversary Commemoration Ceremony for UN Fallen Soldiers Who Served in the Korean War” tomorrow (June 25) at 9:00 a.m. at the United Nations Memorial Cemetery in Korea, located in Nam-gu.

The ceremony has been held annually at the United Nations Memorial Cemetery in Korea since 1998 to pay tribute to the souls of UN fallen soldiers who sacrificed their lives to defend peace and freedom on the Korean Peninsula, honor the sacrifice and dedication of war veterans, and reflect on the suffering and tragedy of the Korean War, which is gradually fading from public memory.

The event is sponsored by Busan Metropolitan City and hosted by the Busan Metropolitan City Branch of the Korea Freedom Federation.

Approximately 2,300 people, including Mayor Park Heong-joon, heads of major institutions, citizens, and students from schools across the region, will attend the ceremony. The program will include the national ceremony, commemorative remarks, memorial addresses by distinguished guests, floral tributes, a moment of silence, a chorus performance of the Korean War Song, and a commemorative flyover by the Black Eagles.

In particular, following the ceremony, the Republic of Korea Air Force’s aerobatic team, the Black Eagles, will conduct a commemorative flyover. The aerial tribute honoring the souls of the fallen service members will conclude the ceremony and further enhance its significance.

In his memorial address, Mayor Park Heong-joon is expected to state, “As we reflect on the historical significance of Busan, which served as the Republic of Korea’s last stronghold and temporary capital during the Korean War, I express my deepest respect and gratitude for the noble spirit of sacrifice shown by the 2,339 fallen UN soldiers who gave their lives in defense of world peace and freedom.”

He will also convey, “The freedom and prosperity we enjoy today were built upon their dedication. Remembering history and creating a better future are our responsibilities. Inheriting the noble legacy of these veterans, we sincerely pray, together with the citizens of Busan, for the eternal peace of the fallen soldiers as Busan continues forward on the path of peace and prosperity.”
