Healthy at 100, Happy in Later Life… Busan Metropolitan City Hosts the 46th Senior Sports Festival

Busan Metropolitan City, led by Mayor Park Heong-joon, announced that it will host the 46th Busan Metropolitan City Mayor’s Senior Sports Festival today (June 24) at 10:00 a.m. at the Busan Asiad Main Stadium Indoor Gymnasium.

The Senior Sports Festival is a sporting event organized by Busan Metropolitan City and hosted by the Busan Federation of the Korean Senior Citizens Association. It provides an opportunity for senior residents from across the region to gather in one place, participate in a variety of sporting activities, and strengthen both their health and friendships.

The event is expected to draw approximately 3,500 participants, including Kim Kyung-duk, Vice Mayor for Administrative Affairs, members of the Busan Federation of the Korean Senior Citizens Association (President Park Jong-su), athletes from branch offices in all 16 districts and counties, and cheering squads. A total of six events will be contested in a spirited atmosphere.

The program will proceed in the following order: a pre-event performance, opening ceremony, sporting competitions by event, and closing ceremony.

The sporting competitions consist of two individual events (Hangeung and Traditional Yut Nori) and four team events (Giant Ball Rolling, Mini Basketball, Ring Toss, and Card Word Matching).

The branch office achieving the highest overall score based on combined team and individual event results will receive the 46th Senior Sports Festival Busan Metropolitan City Mayor’s Trophy. The winning teams in each individual event will earn the right to represent Busan at the National Senior Health Festival to be held this coming November.

Kim Kyung-duk, Vice Mayor for Administrative Affairs, is expected to say, “The healthy and active later life of each and every senior citizen represents Busan’s happy future. I hope this event will serve as a venue for harmony and communication and create many cherished memories.”

He will also add, “We will continue to expand senior welfare policies that are closely connected to daily life so that older adults can fully enjoy health services, leisure opportunities, and care in their everyday lives.”
