A Platform for Technology Exchange to Advance Busan’s Power Semiconductor Industry: 2026 KIEEME Summer Conference to Be Held

Busan Metropolitan City, led by Mayor Park Heong-joon, announced that the 2026 KIEEME Summer Conference will be held for three days from June 24 to June 26 at the BEXCO Convention Hall.

The KIEEME Summer Conference is an annual event organized by the Korean Institute of Electrical and Electronic Material Engineers (KIEEME), the nation’s leading academic society in the field of electrical and electronic materials and a representative association for compound power semiconductors.

Founded in 1987, KIEEME is a key academic organization dedicated to research on compound power semiconductor materials such as silicon carbide (SiC) and gallium nitride (GaN). More than 7,000 experts in electrical and electronic materials and representatives from related institutions and organizations participate in its activities.

Since Busan was designated as a specialized power semiconductor complex in 2023, the city has worked to strengthen connections between power semiconductor research and technology development and support the creation of an industrial ecosystem. As part of these efforts, Busan successfully attracted the KIEEME Summer Conference in 2024, bringing to the city an event that had previously been held in other regions each year.

This year’s conference will be the largest in its history, with approximately 2,500 participants, including experts in electrical and electronic materials and professionals from power semiconductor companies, presenting a total of 1,294 research papers.

Participants will share the latest technologies and research trends in advanced industries, including power semiconductors, and discuss future directions for the development of Busan’s power semiconductor industry.

During the conference, a variety of academic programs will be held, including presentations of 1,294 papers in advanced industry fields such as power semiconductors, semiconductor materials and processes, and secondary batteries; operation of 65 promotional exhibition booths featuring 57 industry, academic, and research organizations; special lectures; and student-focused sessions.

Special lectures will be delivered by Vice President Jeong Hae-seok of Samsung Electro-Mechanics, Professor Lee Jong-ho of Seoul National University, and Director Kang Jong-yoon of the National Research Foundation of Korea. Their presentations will address “The Impact of AI on MLCC Development Directions,” “Low-power AI Semiconductors,” and “Future Directions for Programs Managed by the ICT Convergence Technology Division of the National Research Foundation of Korea,” respectively.

In addition, a new Career Concert program for students and early-career researchers will be introduced this year, providing opportunities for career exploration and employment networking.

Various side events will also be organized to discuss strategies for fostering Busan’s power semiconductor industry.

During the conference, the “SiC Semiconductor Materials and Devices Research Conference” and the “Korea Gallium Oxide Technology Research Society Specialized Academic Workshop” will be held concurrently, further promoting technology exchange and cooperation in the power semiconductor field.

Park Dong-seok, Director General of the Advanced Industries Bureau, stated, “Busan is pursuing a wide range of support policies to grow into a hub city for the power semiconductor industry centered on the specialized power semiconductor complex. We hope this summer conference will serve as an opportunity for Busan to establish itself as a leading center for technology exchange and cooperation in the power semiconductor sector.”
