Additional Applications Open for Busan Metropolitan City’s Seismic Safety Certification Support Program

Busan Metropolitan City (Mayor Park Heong-joon) announced that it will accept additional applications beginning in June for the 2026 Seismic Safety Certification Support Program.

The city secured KRW 960 million in project funding for 2026 and has been accepting applications since January through a public notice. Additional applications will continue to be accepted through August within the limits of the available budget.

The Seismic Safety Certification Support Program has been implemented since 2019 to encourage private building owners to secure seismic performance and to enhance public confidence in the safety of buildings against earthquakes.

Eligible applicants include all private buildings seeking certification, particularly facilities that citizens use regularly, such as schools, hospitals, railway stations, and multi-use facilities.

The program provides support of up to KRW 30 million for seismic performance evaluations conducted to verify a building’s seismic safety and up to KRW 5 million for seismic safety certification costs for buildings confirmed to meet seismic performance standards through the evaluation process, for a maximum total support amount of KRW 35 million.

Kim Gi-hwan, Assistant Mayor of Citizen Safety Office, stated, “Securing the seismic performance of buildings can play a vital role in protecting citizens’ lives from potential future earthquakes. We encourage citizens to take a strong interest in this program.”
