Busan Metropolitan City Awards Honorary Citizenship Certificates to Jeju Provincial Council Member Kang Kyoung-moon and BIKY Executive Chair Lee Hyun-jung

Busan Metropolitan City (Mayor Park Heong-joon) announced that it will award Busan Metropolitan City Honorary Citizenship Certificates today (June 18) at 4:00 p.m. in the International Protocol Office at City Hall to Kang Kyoung-moon, a member of the Jeju Special Self-Governing Provincial Council, and Lee Hyun-jung, Executive Chair of the Busan International Kids & Youth Film Festival (BIKY), in recognition of their contributions to enhancing Busan’s reputation and advancing regional development.

Since 1966, the city has selected as honorary citizens individuals from outside Busan who have demonstrated their affection for the city through action and contributed to municipal development in a wide range of fields, including the economy, culture, and science.

In 2026, honorary citizenship recipients were finalized through a process that included a regular public nomination campaign conducted from February, deliberation by the selection committee, and approval by the City Council.

The honorary citizens selected this year are Kang Kyoung-moon, a member of the Jeju Special Self-Governing Provincial Council, and Lee Hyun-jung, Executive Chair of the Busan International Kids & Youth Film Festival.

Kang Kyoung-moon has actively engaged in legislative activities to promote cooperation and exchanges between Busan and Jeju and was recognized for his contributions to the joint development of the two regions and balanced regional growth.

Lee Hyun-jung successfully guided the stable growth of the Busan International Kids & Youth Film Festival, which celebrated its 20th anniversary last year. She has also contributed to raising the international profile of Busan as a UNESCO Creative City of Film and to expanding the diversity of local cultural and artistic content.

Those selected as honorary citizens will receive a Busan Metropolitan City Honorary Citizenship Certificate, commemorative business cards, and commemorative gifts. They will also be accorded various courtesies and benefits, including invitations to major city events and discounts at museums and art galleries.

Mayor Park Heong-joon stated, “On behalf of Busan’s 3.3 million citizens, I sincerely thank both recipients for the passion and dedication they have demonstrated in their respective fields out of their affection for Busan and their commitment to the city’s development.”

He added, “I hope you will continue to show interest in and affection for Busan. We will do our utmost to ensure that both of you can take great pride in your status as honorary citizens.”
