Busan Metropolitan City Holds Forum on Strategies for Fostering the Fisheries Bio Industry

Busan Metropolitan City, led by Mayor Park Heong-joon, announced that it will hold a forum on strategies for fostering the fisheries bio industry today (June 16) at 2:00 p.m. in Conference Hall A (5th Floor) of the Busan Port International Exhibition & Convention Center (BPEX).

The forum has been organized to assess the current state of the marine organism-based bio-material industry and discuss practical measures to foster the fisheries bio industry, from building regional clusters to expanding into global markets.

Approximately 120 participants are expected to attend, including representatives from Busan Metropolitan City, the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, local governments, research institutes, universities, industry organizations, and producer groups. The event is hosted and organized by the Busan Fisheries Policy Forum and sponsored by Busan Metropolitan City, the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, and Pukyong National University.

The program will consist of a keynote lecture, three thematic presentations, and a panel discussion, providing an opportunity to share development directions and key strategies for advancing the fisheries bio industry.

In the keynote lecture, Professor Cho Seung-mok of Pukyong National University will present on “The Future Vision of the Fisheries Bio Industry and Securing Global Competitiveness,” outlining directions for industry growth and measures to strengthen competitiveness.

The thematic presentations will follow. Han Gi-won, Research Fellow at the Korea Maritime Institute, will speak on “Building an Ecosystem for the Fisheries Bio Industry.” Jang Deok-hee, Principal Research Scientist at the Korea Institute of Ocean Science and Technology, will present on “Trends in the Development and Commercialization of Marine Organism-Based Bio Materials.” Cha Wan-young, Chief Executive Officer of Marine Innovation Co., Ltd., will discuss “Investment and Market Entry Strategies in the Fisheries Bio Sector.”

The panel discussion will be moderated by Ma Chang-mo, Director of the Fisheries Research Division at the Korea Maritime Institute. Seven experts from Busan Metropolitan City, the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, the National Institute of Fisheries Science, academia, and related sectors will participate to discuss policy priorities and measures to promote and revitalize the fisheries bio industry.

Busan Metropolitan City expects the forum to strengthen cooperation among policymakers, researchers, and industry stakeholders in the fisheries bio sector while providing momentum for advancing regional cluster development and refining market-entry strategies.

Cho Young-tae, Director General of the Marine and Fisheries Bureau of Busan Metropolitan City, stated, “This forum is a meaningful opportunity for stakeholders from the policy, research, and industrial sectors of the fisheries bio field to come together and explore the future direction of the industry.
