Busan Metropolitan City and the Busan Branch of the Korean Red Cross Hold a Ceremony to Deliver Relief Supplies to Disaster-Vulnerable Residents During the Summer Heatwave

Busan Metropolitan City, led by Mayor Park Heong-joon, announced that it will hold a ceremony today (June 12) at 3:00 p.m. in the International Protocol Room at City Hall, together with the Busan Branch of the Korean Red Cross, to deliver relief supplies to disaster-vulnerable residents during the summer heatwave.

The ceremony will be attended by the Director General of the Social Welfare Bureau of Busan Metropolitan City and Park Sun-young, Secretary General of the Busan Branch of the Korean Red Cross.

At the ceremony, the Busan Branch of the Korean Red Cross will donate 2,000 summer bedding sets valued at KRW 90 million.

As extreme summer heat poses an even greater threat to socially and economically vulnerable groups, the donation is intended to help them spend the summer more safely and comfortably. The supplies were prepared using the Hope Sharing Fund, which reflects the generosity and community spirit of Busan citizens.

The recipients are 2,000 vulnerable households that applied through Eup, Myeon, and Dong Administrative Welfare Centers across the city’s 16 districts and counties. The supplies are scheduled to be delivered simultaneously on June 19 to the respective Administrative Welfare Centers and directly to households.

Meanwhile, the Busan Branch of the Korean Red Cross operates a Disaster Psychological Recovery Support Center that provides psychological recovery services for disaster victims and other affected individuals. It also carries out a variety of support programs for vulnerable groups, including the Hope Windmill Emergency Support Solution Committee, which provides customized emergency assistance to households in crisis.

Jeong Tae-gi, Director General of the Social Welfare Bureau of Busan Metropolitan City, stated, “As the onset of heatwaves continues to arrive earlier each year and prolonged periods of extreme heat are expected again this year, we will concentrate our administrative efforts on protecting vulnerable residents so that no one is left exposed to heat-related risks.”

He added, “We will continue to do our utmost to establish a rapid response system and implement preventive measures to protect vulnerable populations from the harmful effects of extreme heat.”
