Two Schools in Busan Selected in the Ministry of Education’s 2026 Specialized High School Partnership Program

Busan Metropolitan City (Mayor Park Heong-joon) announced that Geumsaem High School (tentatively named Busan Power Semiconductor High School) and Gyeongnam Technical High School have been finally selected for the Ministry of Education’s 2026 Specialized High School Partnership Program.

Geumsaem High School was selected in the power semiconductor sector, while Gyeongnam Technical High School was selected in the marine plant sector.

The Specialized High School Partnership Program is an industry-academia cooperative vocational education model in which local governments, offices of education, companies, specialized high schools, and universities establish a collaborative framework to jointly cultivate talent needed by regional industries.

Through this initiative, Busan Metropolitan City has laid the foundation for responding to workforce demand from local companies and systematically nurturing specialized talent required in industrial settings from the high school level onward.

With this selection, Geumsaem High School will help establish a system for the timely supply of field-ready talent required by companies located in Busan’s semiconductor materials, parts, and equipment cluster.

Accordingly, Busan Metropolitan City plans to build a cooperative framework that links talent development, employment, and long-term regional settlement through close collaboration with partner institutions, including the Busan Metropolitan City Office of Education, IQLAB Co., Ltd., Dong-eui University, and Busan Technopark.

Geumsaem High School will comprehensively reorganize its existing departments focused on electricity, electronics, and software into an education system tailored to the power semiconductor industry and will begin full-scale operations in 2027.

Gyeongnam Technical High School will operate as a Specialized High School Partnership Program institution to systematically cultivate field-oriented skilled workers in the shipbuilding and marine plant sector and to respond to workforce demand from regional industries.

The program will be operated based on an industry-academia-government cooperation framework involving Busan Metropolitan City, the Busan Metropolitan City Office of Education, shipbuilding and marine plant companies, related institutions, and Gyeongnam Technical High School.

Major initiatives will include operating customized curricula for the shipbuilding and marine plant sector, supporting the acquisition of professional technical qualifications, expanding company-linked field training opportunities, providing education with participation from industry experts, and operating employment linkage programs.

In addition, the program will develop curricula that reflect industry demand, strengthen employment connections, and foster locally rooted talent, thereby creating a virtuous cycle in which regional industry and education grow together.

Mayor Park Heong-joon stated, “The selection of these schools for the Specialized High School Partnership Program will serve as a regionally tailored talent development model that connects education and industry. We will do our utmost to cultivate high school-level practical talent specialized in our regional strategic industries and connect them with businesses. This talent development will also serve as a catalyst for attracting companies, creating a virtuous ecosystem that promotes regional industrial development and increases the number of young people choosing to build their future in Busan.”
