Call for Nominations: 18th Busan Metropolitan City Social Contribution Awards

Busan Metropolitan City (Mayor Park Heong-joon) announced that it will accept nominations for the 18th Busan Metropolitan City Social Contribution Awards for seven weeks, from today (June 8) through July 24, in order to identify and recognize unsung contributors who have helped spread a culture of sharing and service throughout the local community and foster a warm and caring society.

Now in its 18th year, the Busan Metropolitan City Social Contribution Awards are honorary awards established under a municipal ordinance and presented annually to promote a culture of giving and encourage participation in volunteer activities throughout the region.

Under the Busan Metropolitan City Ordinance on the Promotion and Support of Social Contribution, enacted to strengthen a social environment in which sharing is respected and to encourage charitable giving and philanthropy, the awards have been presented annually since 2009.

Eligible nominees are individuals, institutions, or organizations that, as of May 31, 2026, have contributed to the development of social contribution activities and charitable giving culture in the Busan area.

The Social Contribution Awards will be presented to a total of six recipients, with two awardees selected in each of three categories (Grand Award and Excellence Award).

The Sharing category recognizes those who have contributed to society primarily through material resources. The Service category recognizes those who have contributed primarily through human resources and volunteer efforts. The Benevolence category recognizes those who have contributed through a combination of material and human resources.

As of the announcement date (June 8, 2026), eligible nominees include private citizens residing in Busan or having their principal place of business in Busan with at least three years of achievements in the relevant field, as well as institutions and organizations with at least two years of accomplishments in the relevant field.

Candidates may be nominated not only by district mayors, county heads, and the heads of social welfare facilities or organizations, but also by ordinary citizens, provided that the nomination is supported by the joint signatures of at least ten citizens aged 19 or older.

Submitted nominations will undergo document review and on-site verification by a working-level committee composed of welfare experts. Final recipients will then be selected through a fair and rigorous review by the Busan Metropolitan City Social Contribution Committee. The award ceremony is scheduled to be held in September in conjunction with the Busan Welfare Month Commemoration Ceremony.

Recipients will receive various benefits, including the right to use the Busan Metropolitan City Social Contribution emblem for three years from the date of the award, invitations to major city events, and exemption from fees for using municipal public parking facilities.

Nomination forms can be downloaded from the Notice and Announcement section of the Busan Metropolitan City website (www.busan.go.kr/nbgosi). Completed applications should be submitted by mail or in person to the Welfare Policy Division (14th Floor, 1001 Jungang-daero, Yeonje-gu, Busan).
