Busan Metropolitan City Seeks Nominees for the 28th Busan Women’s Award, Honoring Outstanding Women Leaders in the Community

Busan Metropolitan City announced today (June 1) that it will accept nominations through June 30 for the 28th Busan Women’s Award, which recognizes women who have made significant contributions to advancing gender equality, promoting women’s rights, and fostering community development.

The Busan Women’s Award was established in 1999 to promote gender equality and expand women’s participation in society. Since then, it has become the most prestigious award in Busan’s women’s community.

As of 2025, a total of 40 recipients have been honored, and the award has continued its tradition and legacy as one of the city’s representative honors symbolizing the leadership of Busan women.

This year as well, Busan Metropolitan City plans to identify and recognize women who have expanded their positive influence through dedicated service and meaningful action throughout local communities, presenting them as role models for women across Busan.

Eligible nominees must have continuously resided in Busan for at least five years as of the announcement date and must have contributed and served for at least ten years in advancing gender equality, promoting women’s rights, expanding women’s participation in society, and supporting community development. Candidates must also demonstrate exemplary conduct in both their public and private lives.

Nominations may be submitted by visiting the Women and Family Affairs Division at Busan Metropolitan City (19th Floor, 1001 Jungang-daero, Yeonje-gu, Busan) or by registered mail no later than 6:00 p.m. on June 30.

Required documents include a nomination form, a record of achievements, a consent form for mayoral commendation, and, when applicable, a joint endorsement list.

Nominations may be made by district mayors, county governors, heads of institutions at all levels located in Busan, leaders of civic, social, and professional organizations, or by ordinary citizens through a joint endorsement signed by at least 20 residents aged 19 or older.

Following field investigations and merit reviews of the submitted candidates through August, the city will select a total of two award recipients. The recipients will receive a Busan Metropolitan City Mayor’s Commendation Plaque at the 2026 Gender Equality Week Commemoration Ceremony scheduled for September 1–7.
