The 19th Busan Port Festival to Be Held in Celebration of the 150th Anniversary of the Opening of Busan Port

Busan Metropolitan City, led by Acting Mayor Kim Kyung-duk, announced that it will host the 19th Busan Port Festival (hereinafter referred to as “the Festival”) for two days from June 19 to 20 in cooperation with the Busan Regional Office of Oceans and Fisheries and the Busan Port Authority.

Now in its 19th year, the Busan Port Festival commemorates the historical significance and symbolism of Busan Port. This year’s festival carries added meaning as it celebrates the 150th anniversary of the opening of Busan Port. The event will be relocated to the Bukhang Waterfront Park, Landmark Site, and the Busan Port Authority headquarters area, offering a venue that better reflects the symbolic character and openness of Busan Port.

To commemorate the 150th anniversary of the opening of Busan Port, this year’s festival will present a variety of cultural and experiential programs.

One of the festival’s signature programs, the “Port Lounge,” recreates the rest, dining, and entertainment spaces traditionally enjoyed by seafarers in a contemporary setting. It consists of the “Experience Zone,” featuring interactive activities inspired by sailors’ games and culture; the “Performance Zone,” offering ongoing stage performances at a small venue within the Port Lounge; and the “Food Zone,” where visitors can sample representative dishes from eight major trading ports around the world. Together, these elements create a small harbor experience that delights all five senses.

At the waterways within Bukhang Waterfront Park, visitors can enjoy marine leisure activities such as moon boats, UFO boats, pontoon boats, water bicycles, and kayaks. In addition, the unique “Port Run” program will allow participants to run through the port area while creating milk foam beverages along the course.

The Bukhang Waterfront Park Landmark Site will also host a variety of family-friendly programs, including the Marine Mission Tour, Wish Boat Launching Experience, Busan Port Lawn Library, Sea-Loving Children’s Writing and Drawing Contest, and Model Ship Building Experience.

In addition, special programs offering direct experiences with ports and vessels will be operated around the Busan Port Authority headquarters area.

These programs include the “Busan Port Tour,” featuring boarding experiences on the port guidance vessel e-Green and the Jagalchi Cruise, as well as the “Busan Port Vessel Open Experience Program” organized by the Busan Port Authority.

Advance reservations for experience programs will begin sequentially from June 1 through YES24 (https://ticket.yes24.com).

Meanwhile, Busan Metropolitan City plans to actively promote the festival to cruise passengers arriving during the festival period through onboard performance programs and promotional booths, thereby expanding participation among cruise tourists.

The opening ceremony, marking the start of the festival, will be held at 7:00 p.m. on June 19 at the Bukhang Landmark Site.

The ceremony will feature congratulatory performances by renowned ballad singer K.Will and youth-inspired rock band Nerd Connection, followed by the Busan Port Fireworks Show. Enhanced in scale and spectacle compared with last year, the 15-minute fireworks display will provide a spectacular opening to the 19th Busan Port Festival.
