Busan Metropolitan City to Conduct the 2025 Economic Census

Busan Metropolitan City, under Acting Mayor Kim Kyung-duk, announced that beginning today (June 1), it will conduct the 2025 Economic Census targeting approximately 218,000 business establishments throughout Busan.

The Economic Census is a national basic statistical survey conducted every five years to identify the structure and changes of industries across the country. The results serve as essential data for establishing regional economic policies, analyzing industries, supporting small business owners, estimating Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP), and producing a wide range of economic statistics.

This survey will cover 217,953 business establishments in Busan with at least one employee. It will collect common survey items such as basic business information, number of employees, sales revenue, and business performance, as well as industry-specific characteristics for each establishment.

In particular, the survey reflects changes in the industrial environment and emerging policy needs by including new items related to the use of artificial intelligence (AI), utilization of robotics, operation of unmanned stores, operation of smart factories, and the status of foreign workers.

The survey will first be conducted through online and mobile platforms via the Economic Census website (https://www.ecensus.go.kr/isis) from June 1 through June 30. For establishments that do not participate in the online survey, field interview surveys conducted by enumerators will take place from June 12 through July 22.

To ensure smooth implementation, the city plans to deploy a total of 1,076 statistical survey personnel and will also utilize various smart survey methods, including online surveys, telephone interviews, and fax responses.

All information collected during the survey will be strictly protected in accordance with Article 33 (Protection of Confidentiality) of the Statistics Act and will not be used for any purpose other than the compilation of statistics.

Kim Dong-hyun, Director General of the Future Technology Strategy Bureau, stated, “The Economic Census is an extremely important survey for accurately assessing the current state of Busan’s economy and for establishing future directions for the city’s development and industrial policies. As all collected information is securely protected under the Statistics Act, we ask business representatives and citizens to participate in the survey with confidence and provide their full cooperation.”
