Busan Metropolitan City Launches Full-Scale “AI Digital Learning Center” Initiative

Busan Metropolitan City, under Acting Mayor Kim Kyung-duk, announced that it will fully launch the “Busan AI Digital Learning Center” initiative to strengthen citizens’ digital capabilities and reduce the digital divide.

Today (May 29) at 3:00 p.m., the city will hold a project kickoff briefing session at the Busanjin Post Office AI Digital Learning Center hub with officials from district and county governments in attendance to share regional cooperation frameworks and project implementation directions.

The “Busan AI Digital Learning Center” initiative, jointly promoted by Busan Metropolitan City and its entrusted organization, the Busan IT Industry Promotion Agency, is an educational program designed to help all citizens easily learn and utilize AI and digital technologies.

In particular, the project focuses on resolving digital exclusion and information disparities that may arise amid the rapid advancement of AI technologies and on creating a citizen-centered environment for AI and digital inclusion.

Beginning in June and continuing through early December, the initiative will sequentially provide regionally tailored AI and digital competency enhancement programs and actively support citizens in improving their AI and digital technology utilization skills.

At the kickoff briefing session, participants will share key initiatives scheduled for implementation in 2026, tour the experience zone, and discuss citizen-centered educational program operations and regional cooperation measures.

In particular, this year’s initiative will continue to offer practical daily-life education programs, including prevention of digital financial fraud such as smishing scams and kiosk usage training, while strengthening education on generative AI utilization to enhance citizens’ AI literacy and application capabilities.

Participants will also explore cooperative measures to minimize regional disparities in digital education and reinforce their commitment to operating effective educational programs.

Previously, on May 26, Busan Metropolitan City held the “2026 Digital Inclusion Conference” at Pukyong National University, where citizens shared perspectives on AI technology development trends and the value of digital inclusion.

The event featured special lectures and experiential programs led by experts in AI and digital technologies, while participants exchanged diverse views on the spread of generative AI and the importance of digital inclusion.

Park Geun-rok, Director General of the Administrative Affairs Bureau of Busan Metropolitan City, stated, “This kickoff briefing session will serve as an opportunity to strengthen cooperation with district and county governments and fully promote citizen-centered AI and digital education.” He added, “We will continue to expand customized educational programs so that no citizen is left behind amid changing digital technologies and will do our utmost to create a warm and digitally inclusive city of Busan.”
