Busan Metropolitan City to Ease Corporate R&D Burdens… Supporting Up to KRW 6 Million in R&D Equipment Usage Fees

Busan Metropolitan City, led by Acting Mayor Kim Kyung-duk, announced that it will implement the “2026 R&D Equipment Shared Utilization Support Program” to strengthen the research and development (R&D) capabilities of local small and medium-sized enterprises and mid-sized companies, and will begin recruiting companies for the first round of participation starting today (May 28).

The program is being launched for the first time this year to support the use of expensive R&D equipment that is difficult for small and medium-sized enterprises to independently establish, thereby promoting corporate R&D and commercialization while encouraging the shared utilization of public R&D equipment.

Busan Metropolitan City will allocate KRW 200 million this year to support 60 percent of equipment usage fees for local small and medium-sized enterprises and mid-sized companies utilizing R&D equipment owned by Busan Techno Park.

Eligible applicants are small and medium-sized enterprises and mid-sized companies whose business registration certificates verify the location of their headquarters, branch offices, factories, or research institutes within Busan.

Selected companies will receive support for equipment usage fees related to testing, analysis, evaluation, and certification conducted using R&D equipment at Busan Techno Park. Each company may apply up to three times per year within an annual maximum support limit of KRW 6 million.

After using the equipment, selected companies will submit the required supporting documents and receive reimbursement of equipment usage fees following a review of their utilization records.

Busan Metropolitan City plans to recruit companies for the first round of participation from today (May 28) through June 8, review eligibility requirements and preferential criteria, and then make the final selections. Thereafter, additional recruitment notices will be announced monthly until the budget is exhausted.

Priority will be given to companies newly utilizing Busan Techno Park’s R&D equipment, companies established within the past seven years, leading companies in Busan Metropolitan City’s strategic industries, and companies conducting testing for certification acquisition.

Participating companies will be able to utilize a variety of R&D equipment operated at Busan Techno Park facilities, including the Convergence Components Center, Mobility Center, Bio Health Center, Power Semiconductor Center, and Footwear Certification Center.

Busan Metropolitan City expects the program to alleviate the financial burden of corporate R&D and testing/certification costs while contributing to stronger regional industrial competitiveness and enhanced corporate R&D capabilities through the activation of shared public R&D equipment utilization.
