Busan Metropolitan City and the Korean Space Science Society to Jointly Host the 11th Small Satellite Workshop

Busan Metropolitan City, led by Acting Mayor Kim Kyung-duk, announced that it will jointly host the “11th Small Satellite Workshop” with the Korean Space Science Society, headed by President Jin Ho, from today (May 27) through May 29 for three days at The Westin Josun Busan.

The “Small Satellite Workshop” is a leading domestic space industry event where participants share technology trends, research achievements, and development status in the field of small satellites. Approximately 400 domestic and international experts from industry, academia, research institutes, the military, and government are expected to participate.

First launched in 2016, the workshop marks its 11th edition this year, and Busan Metropolitan City has participated as a supporting organization since 2022. In addition, the city formalized co-hosting through a memorandum of understanding signed with the Korean Space Science Society in 2024.

This year’s workshop will feature six sessions with 33 topic presentations, corporate exhibition and promotional booths, networking opportunities for technical exchange among participants, and Industry Day programs.

Major sessions include “Small Satellite Technology Innovation I·II·III,” “Small Satellites and Space Situational Awareness,” “Asking the Way Forward for New Space,” and “SAR Satellite Development.” Experts from the military, universities, private companies, and academia will share a wide range of research and technology cases.

In addition, 27 companies will participate to exhibit and promote their products and technologies, showcasing their technical capabilities.

In particular, on the first day of the event, May 27, an “Industry Day” program will be operated featuring technology promotion presentations by 15 companies as well as meetup programs between investors and companies to support exchange and cooperation among participating companies.

Cho Young-tae, Director General of the Marine and Fisheries Bureau of Busan Metropolitan City, stated, “This workshop will serve as a meaningful opportunity for experts in the domestic small satellite field to gather in Busan and share technology trends and research achievements.” He added, “We also hope this event will expand the foundation for exchange and cooperation within the small satellite industry ecosystem.”
