Beyond Limits, Soaring Higher into the Sky! “2026 Busan International Pole Vault Meeting” to Be Held

Busan Metropolitan City, under Acting Mayor Kim Kyung-duk, announced that the “2026 Busan International Pole Vault Meeting” will be held on May 30 at a special stadium in Gwangalli Beachside Park.

This competition is the first and only international single-discipline athletics event in Korea to receive official approval from the Asian Athletics Association (AAA). Supported by Busan as a global sports city, the event is hosted by the Korea Association of Athletics Federations and organized by the Busan Association of Athletics Federations.

Set against the backdrop of Gwangalli Beach, one of Busan’s most iconic tourist destinations where the blue horizon meets Gwangan Bridge, world-class athletes are expected to deliver inspiring performances as they push beyond their limits.

The event schedule begins with the opening ceremony on May 29 at 19:00, followed by the women’s senior division competition on May 30 at 16:00 and the men’s senior division competition at 20:10.

In the women’s division, strong title contenders including Toriana Thomas of the United States, who continues to set new personal bests, Misaki Morota of Japan, and Korean national team athlete Bae Hanna will compete in a fierce showdown.

In the men’s division, Jin Min-seop of Yeonje-gu Office in Busan, Korea’s leading pole vaulter and national record holder, along with Patsapong Amsamang of Thailand and Masaki Ejima of Japan, will battle for the top spot.

In addition to the competitions, a variety of cultural events will be offered for citizens and visitors to enjoy together.

Celebration performances, including invited singer performances and electronic violin shows, as well as on-site prize events, are expected to further enhance the festive atmosphere.

All competitions will be open to the public free of charge and will be broadcast live through Busan Munhwa Broadcasting (MBC).
