Busan Metropolitan City Launches “Run Busan Running Crew” to Promote Everyday Running Culture

Busan Metropolitan City, led by Acting Mayor Kim Kyung-duk, announced that it will operate “Run Busan Running Crew,” a recreational sports running program, from May 28 through November to help citizens enjoy running easily and safely in their daily lives.

The “Run Busan Running Crew” program is a Busan-style recreational sports initiative designed to expand opportunities for participation in everyday sports activities by utilizing the city’s beautiful beaches, riversides, and parks under the slogan “Run Together, Run Through Busan.”

Under the systematic guidance of professional coaches, participants will learn pre- and post-run stretching, basic running posture, pace control, injury prevention and recovery methods, and group running practice, helping citizens continue running regularly as part of their daily lives.

The program is designed with courses tailored to different levels so that anyone can participate, from beginners to experienced runners who wish to continue running regularly. Taking advantage of the unique characteristics of Suyeong River and Dadaepo, the program will be divided into night courses and morning courses.

The Suyeong River course will operate every Thursday from 7:00 p.m. around the outdoor stage at APEC Naru Park, allowing participants to enjoy the nighttime scenery along the Suyeong River in the heart of the city while running.

The Dadaepo course will operate every Saturday from 10:00 a.m. around the Dadaepo Runner Support Center, the first runner support facility in Busan, and will follow the beach park where the seaside and silver grass fields come together.

The city plans to ensure that both participants and citizens can use the spaces safely and comfortably through on-site guidance and safety management.

Since the program will take place in public spaces shared by citizens without separate traffic or pedestrian controls, the city plans to strengthen advance guidance and on-site management to minimize inconvenience to pedestrians.

To this end, participants will be informed in advance about basic running etiquette, including prioritizing pedestrians, refraining from reckless overtaking, and avoiding excessive cheering and noise that may inconvenience pedestrians.

In addition, the city plans to further develop “Run Busan Running Crew” as a foundation for expanding Busan-style running culture by linking it with running infrastructure and follow-up programs.

Alongside the regular running crew program, the city will also host small themed running events such as “Family Run” and “Coffee Run,” where families and citizens can participate together.

In the second half of the year, the city plans to expand running convenience facilities by establishing a second Runner Support Center inside Geumnyeonsan Station and continue developing programs connected to major running courses across Busan.

The city also plans to build on the atmosphere of citizen participation created through the running crew program by connecting it to the inaugural “Run Busan Running Festival” in November and the “Busan International Marathon” in December, further spreading a healthy running culture throughout Busan.
