Busan Metropolitan City Holds the 15th Busan Civil Engineering Awards Ceremony in 2026

Busan Metropolitan City, led by Acting Mayor Kim Kyung-duk, announced that it has selected four recipients for the 15th Busan Civil Engineering Awards in recognition of their contributions to building safe and high-quality urban infrastructure and to encourage pride and morale among construction engineers in the Busan region.

Launched in 2012, the Busan Civil Engineering Awards mark their 15th anniversary this year. Recipients were selected through deliberation by the city’s Achievement Review Committee from among candidates recommended by the Busan-Ulsan-Gyeongnam Branch of the Korean Society of Civil Engineers, whose membership includes approximately 3,000 professionals from universities, research institutes, public institutions, and construction companies.

The Busan-Ulsan-Gyeongnam Branch of the Korean Society of Civil Engineers was established on May 18, 1968, and currently has 3,036 members, including 2,692 regular members as well as senior and student members. Its major activities include operating the 119 Civil Engineering Rescue Team and hosting civil engineering conventions, technical forums, and academic seminars.

Certificates of commendation were presented yesterday morning, May 18, at 11:00 a.m. at the Busan-Ulsan-Gyeongnam Branch of the Korean Society of Civil Engineers in celebration of the branch’s 58th anniversary.

Four individuals from industry, academia, and government who have made significant contributions to the advancement of civil engineering and construction technology in their respective fields were selected as award recipients.

In the Education and Research category, Professor An Jae-hoon of Pusan National University was recognized for his contributions to fostering local talent and conducting research in civil engineering.

In the Design and Construction category, Gong Young-i, CEO of Hoedeok Co., Ltd., and Kim Sung-soo, Vice President of Museong Construction Co., Ltd., were selected for their contributions to regional construction development and improvements in public safety.

In the Construction and Administration category, Yoon Tae-gyun, Director of the Road Planning Division at Busan Metropolitan City Hall, was recognized for his dedication to municipal development through the establishment of an optimized road network for Busan.

Baek Myeong-gi, Director General of the Urban Planning Bureau of Busan Metropolitan City, stated, “The award recipients, along with many other highly capable regional construction engineers, will serve as reliable partners in shaping Busan’s future.” He added, “The city will continue to identify and recognize experts who contribute to the development of the construction sector, enhance the pride of construction engineers, and ultimately build safe and efficient urban infrastructure that citizens can trust.”
