A Half-Century Legacy of Traditional Arts — The Stage Every Artist Dreams Of! The 50th Busan Dongnae National Traditional Arts Competition to Be Held

Busan Metropolitan City, led by Acting Mayor Kim Kyung-duk, announced that the 50th Busan Dongnae National Traditional Arts Competition will be held for two days from June 20 to 21 at the Busan Folk Art Center.

Hosted and organized by the Busan Folk Arts Preservation Association and sponsored by Busan Metropolitan City, the competition aims to promote the value of traditional arts, specialize traditional dance and instrumental music on a nationwide scale, and broaden the foundation of traditional arts by discovering and nurturing talented emerging artists from across the country and providing them with opportunities for artistic growth.

The competition will be divided into two categories: traditional dance and traditional instrumental music. Participants will compete in four divisions: Master Division, General Division, Middle and High School Division, and Rookie Division (Dance).

The Grand Prize winner in the Master Division will receive the Prime Minister’s Award and KRW 5 million in prize money, while the Overall Excellence Award winner will receive the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Award and KRW 3 million in prize money. Other award recipients will receive certificates and prize money.

In particular, the Grand Prize winner in the Master Division will be offered various special benefits, including invitations to perform at special events and opportunities to open courses at cultural education institutions.

Cho Yu-jang, Director General of the Culture Bureau of Busan Metropolitan City, stated, “We hope this competition, which has preserved our traditional music and dance for the past 50 years, will evolve into a festival enjoyed by people of all generations across the nation,” adding, “We look forward to talented aspiring traditional Korean musicians from around the country showcasing their skills to the fullest on this stage.”
