Strengthening Support for Children, Including Young Caregivers… ChildFund Korea Donates KRW 2.3 Billion to Busan Metropolitan City

Busan Metropolitan City, led by Acting Mayor Kim Kyung-duk, announced that it will hold a donation ceremony today (May 14) at 2:00 p.m. in the International Protocol Room at City Hall together with ChildFund Korea to support child welfare projects.

The ceremony has been organized to support children from families receiving case management services through 55 social welfare centers affiliated with the Busan Association of Social Welfare Centers.

Attendees at the ceremony will include the Director General of the Social Welfare Bureau of Busan Metropolitan City, Cho Yu-jin, Head of ChildFund Korea Busan Regional Headquarters, and Ryu Seung-il, President of the Busan Association of Social Welfare Centers.

At the ceremony, ChildFund Korea will deliver a total donation of KRW 2.362 billion to Busan Metropolitan City. The donation will be used for a variety of child welfare initiatives, including support for children from low-income families in the Busan area.

◈ Sponsorship Support Fund: More than KRW 610 million will be provided to 350 sponsored children each month.

◈ Basic Living Support Expenses: KRW 1.5 billion will be provided annually to 830 children from low-income families receiving case management services through social welfare centers, covering educational, medical, and housing expenses.

◈ Young Caregiver Support Program: In accordance with the Act on Support for Children and Youth in Crisis Due to Family Caregiving and Related Circumstances, KRW 250 million will be provided annually to 100 children who are responsible for caregiving duties such as nursing, caregiving, and daily household management due to sudden accidents, illnesses, or disabilities affecting their guardians.

Jeong Tae-gi, Director General of the Social Welfare Bureau of Busan Metropolitan City, stated, “This support from ChildFund Korea will be effectively utilized in cooperation with 55 social welfare centers across Busan to provide integrated professional case management and necessary resources to vulnerable children and families,” adding, “We will continue to make every effort to advance community welfare policies for children and families in need of support, including young caregivers, who represent a newly emerging vulnerable group.”
