Busan Metropolitan City Launches Additional First-Half Electric Vehicle Supply Program to Meet Growing Citizen Demand

Busan Metropolitan City announced that it will implement an additional first-half announcement for the “2026 Electric Vehicle Private Distribution Program” starting today (May 13) in response to growing demand for electric vehicles.

The additional announcement will be promoted in connection with KRW 1.2 billion in municipal funding secured through a supplementary budget and KRW 4 billion in national funding, with plans to additionally distribute a total of 1,000 electric vehicles.

The additional supply by vehicle type consists of 600 electric passenger vehicles and 400 electric cargo vehicles.

Applications will be accepted sequentially by vehicle type. Applications for electric cargo vehicles will open on May 20, while applications for electric passenger vehicles will begin on May 27.

Demand for electric vehicles has recently surged due to factors including fluctuations in international oil prices, reductions in electric vehicle prices, and the expansion of new model launches.

Busan Metropolitan City previously promoted the distribution of 4,126 electric passenger vehicles and 846 electric cargo vehicles as part of its first-half allocation. However, applications for electric cargo vehicles closed early at the end of March, while applications for electric passenger vehicles closed in mid-April.

This reflects a sharp increase in demand, with the number of electric vehicle applications this year rising by approximately 2.7 times compared to the same month last year. The increase is attributed to factors such as fluctuations in international oil prices, reductions in vehicle prices, and the expansion of new vehicle launches.

The City also plans to continuously monitor electric vehicle demand during the second half of the year and operate a flexible support system reflecting demand by vehicle type.

In particular, the City intends to secure additional allocations to minimize inconvenience for citizens and continue expanding electric vehicle distribution.

In addition, Busan Metropolitan City plans to actively support easing citizens’ purchasing burdens and expanding electric vehicle adoption by simultaneously promoting the City’s own support programs, including the “Busan Youth EV Dream” program.

Lee Byeong-seok, Assistant Mayor of Environmental Water Policy Office, stated, “As citizen interest in and demand for electric vehicles continue to grow, we will do our utmost to secure additional allocations and swiftly promote the program.” He added, “We will continue operating the distribution program flexibly so that citizens can stably receive subsidy benefits.”
