“Leading the Way Toward a Low-Carbon Green City” … Busan Metropolitan City Selects Winners of the “27th Busan Green Environment Awards”

Busan Metropolitan City, under Acting Mayor Kim Kyung-duk, announced that it has selected the recipients of the “Busan Green Environment Awards,” the highest honor in the environmental sector in the Busan region.

This year’s award recipients are Park Dong-gyu, Manager of the Busan Deokcheon 2 Management Office of Korea Housing Management Corporation, in the Green Family category; Busan Haeundae Senior Club, represented by Cheon Young-gwon, in the Green Organization category; and BEXCO Co., Ltd., represented by Lee Jun-seung, in the Green Company category.

Since 2000, the city has selected recipients of the awards every year to widely recognize the contributions of citizens, organizations, and companies dedicated to environmental conservation in the region. To date, a total of 98 organizations and companies have received the award, establishing it as the region’s most prestigious environmental honor.

In the Green Family category, Park Dong-gyu, Manager of the Busan Deokcheon 2 Management Office of Korea Housing Management Corporation, was recognized for promoting initiatives such as free mondo grass distribution events and green remodeling projects aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Manager Park has continuously participated in public contests related to eco-friendly practices and has led various environmentally friendly projects, including community-based mondo grass sharing events and green remodeling projects, while striving to promote carbon neutrality in daily life.

In the Green Organization category, Busan Haeundae Senior Club, the operating organization of the third Neighborhood ESG Center, was selected as the recipient.

Since opening the Neighborhood ESG Center in 2024, Busan Haeundae Senior Club has operated senior employment programs. By establishing a model that combines resource circulation, environmental protection, and environmental education, the organization has operated initiatives such as a plastic resource circulation team and ESG travel docent programs, contributing to environmental protection and the expansion of environmental education throughout the local community.

In the Green Company category, BEXCO Co., Ltd., Busan’s representative exhibition and convention center, was selected for actively implementing environmentally friendly operations and ESG-based management practices.

BEXCO has contributed to fostering related industries by hosting exhibitions specializing in carbon neutrality and energy. It has also organized various campaigns and contests to promote the practice of carbon neutrality across the local community and the broader MICE industry.

In addition, last year (2025), BEXCO became the first exhibition and convention center in Korea to obtain the international eco-friendly facility certification “Green Key,” demonstrating leadership in greenhouse gas reduction and environmental conservation.

Meanwhile, the award ceremony will be held on June 5 during the commemorative event for the 31st Environment Day, where recipients will receive plaques from the Mayor.

Acting Mayor of Busan Metropolitan City Kim Kyung-duk stated, “The Busan Green Environment Awards are presented to individuals, organizations, and companies that have devoted themselves to and played a leading role in building Busan into a low-carbon green city,” adding, “We ask for continued interest and participation from citizens in environmental conservation efforts.”
