Busan Metropolitan City Declares Commitment to Food Safety Ahead of Major Events… Hosts “25th Food Safety Day Ceremony”

Busan Metropolitan City, led by Acting Mayor Kim Kyung-duk, announced that it will host the “25th Food Safety Day Ceremony” today (May 11) at 9:50 a.m. in the Main Conference Hall on the 1st floor of City Hall.

◈ Although Food Safety Day is officially observed every year on May 14, this year’s event has been scheduled earlier than usual in order to proactively respond to on-site sanitation management and concentrate administrative efforts for a series of upcoming large-scale events, beginning with The 20th National Youth Para Games on May 12, followed by international events such as LIV Golf Korea 2026 and the 48th Session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee.

Approximately 150 participants, including consumers, food sanitation organizations, food business operators, public officials, and citizens, will attend the ceremony to reaffirm their commitment to flawless food and beverage safety management for the upcoming major events.

◈ Representatives from sanitation organizations, food business operators, and public officials will jointly take the stage to read a declaration pledging the practice of food safety, while all attendees will chant the slogan, “Safety First! Busan Food You Can Trust!” to pledge seamless sanitation services.

◈ In addition, Busan Metropolitan City will announce its selection as an outstanding institution in the “2026 Food Safety Management Evaluation” hosted by the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety and present commendations from the Minister of Food and Drug Safety and the Mayor to outstanding institutions and individuals who contributed to establishing the city’s food safety system.

As a side event, various exhibition and promotional booths will be operated from 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the lobby in front of the Grand Auditorium on the 1st floor of City Hall.

◈ Through the Children’s Dietary Safety Education Hall, Food Poisoning Prevention Experience Center, Food Safety Information Hall, and Busan Outstanding Food Brand Hall, useful food safety information will be provided to citizens.

Kim Kyung-duk, Acting Mayor of Busan Metropolitan City, stated, “To the extent that we have advanced this year’s Food Safety Day event, the city is dedicating all efforts to ensuring perfect food and beverage safety management for the successful hosting of the consecutive major events following The 20th National Youth Para Games.”

He added, “Through thorough on-site response measures and close public-private cooperation, we will demonstrate to the world the status of Busan as a ‘Global Food Safety City.’”
