Busan Metropolitan City Holds Volunteer Launch Ceremony for The 55th National Junior Sports Festival and The 20th National Youth Para Games, Strengthening Commitment to Successful Hosting

Busan Metropolitan City and the Busan Metropolitan City Volunteer Center announced that they will hold the “2026 Volunteer Launch Ceremony for The 55th National Junior Sports Festival and The 20th National Youth Para Games” today (30th) at 3:00 PM in the main auditorium on the first floor of City Hall, reaffirming their commitment to successfully hosting the events.

The ceremony was attended by approximately 1,450 volunteers selected from across Busan, along with event officials and citizens. Song Sang-jo, Chair of the Administrative and Cultural Committee of the Busan Metropolitan Council, also attended to encourage the volunteers.

During the events, volunteers will be assigned to various roles including the general situation room, opening ceremony support, game operations, and venue guidance, taking responsibility for ensuring safe event management and participant convenience.

The ceremony will proceed in the order of the flag bearer procession, opening declaration, video screening, and pledge recitation, followed by a performance themed “You Are the True Hidden Medalist.”

In the performance, participants will hold towels from their seats and, following the host’s signal, collectively complete the slogan “You Are the True Hidden Medalist,” reinforcing their determination to ensure the success of The 55th National Junior Sports Festival and The 20th National Youth Para Games.

Busan Metropolitan City plans to use this ceremony as an opportunity to thoroughly prepare so that volunteers can warmly welcome athletes and citizens during the event period and support a safe and vibrant competition.

Park Kyung-ok, Head of the Busan Metropolitan City Volunteer Center, is expected to state, “This event will serve as the starting point for achieving the success of these games, which are drawing attention not only in Busan but across the nation,” adding, “Through this launch ceremony with citizen participation, we hope to share the true meaning of volunteerism and expand it into greater community values.”

Lee Jeong-min, Head of the National Sports Festival Planning Division, is expected to say, “Busan will be remembered by the smiles of volunteers for the approximately 23,000 athletes and their families visiting from across the country,” adding, “Please take pride in being the hidden protagonists of these games and the face of Busan, and provide strong support for the passion of young athletes.”
