“From Customized Infrastructure to Consulting for Each Company” Busan Metropolitan City Supports High-Performance Computing for AI Companies

Busan Metropolitan City announced that it will officially launch the “Busan AI Company High-Performance Computing Support Program” (hereinafter referred to as the “program”) to alleviate the burden of securing high-cost computing resources for local AI companies and to establish customized development environments. Applications from companies in need will be accepted starting tomorrow (April 30).

The program was designed to support local companies facing difficulties in technology development due to the high cost of infrastructure, amid the rapid expansion of AI technologies and the resulting surge in demand for high-performance computing.

This newly introduced program focuses on providing cloud-based high-performance computing resources (cloud GPUs).
Specifically, it includes support covering 90 percent of GPU server usage costs, consulting on GPU resource utilization, and GPU usage training for companies selected under the “Start Track.”

In addition, to enable flexible use of computing resources according to the complexity of AI models and the scale of data for each company, the program offers customized infrastructure through two categories: the “General Track” and the “Start Track.”

Under the “General Track,” support is provided for GPU server usage costs for large-scale computation, up to a maximum of 30 million won. Under the “Start Track,” lightweight resources required for initial model validation are provided, up to a maximum of 5 million won. Applicants may apply for only one of the two tracks.

Eligible applicants include small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), mid-sized companies, startups, universities, and research institutes located in Busan. Approximately 12 projects will be selected, and intensive support will be provided for up to six months from the date of agreement signing.

In particular, all selected companies will receive “resource utilization consulting,” which analyzes the characteristics of their development models and data scale to recommend optimal resource configurations. For early-stage startups with limited experience in infrastructure operation, practical training will also be provided.

Companies wishing to participate may submit applications online through the Busan IT Industry Promotion Agency website (https://bipa.kr) from April 30 to May 13. Final beneficiaries will be selected through an evaluation process.

Busan Metropolitan City expects that the implementation of this program will promote AI technology and product development among local SMEs and startups that have previously faced difficulties in accessing high-performance computing resources, thereby strengthening their capabilities.

Kim Dong-hyun, Director General of the Future Technology Strategy Bureau, stated, “This program will serve as a practical solution and a catalyst for local AI companies struggling with technological development due to insufficient infrastructure.” He added, “We will continue to provide policy support tailored to on-site needs to ensure that Busan’s AI industry ecosystem builds a strong foundational capacity.”
