“Comics You Can Touch and Experience” … Busan Metropolitan Library to Host 2026 Physical Acquisition Exhibition “Can’t Resist Comics”

Busan Metropolitan Library announced that it will host the “2026 Physical Acquisition Exhibition ‘Can’t Resist Comics’” from May 12 to June 21, sharing the appeal of comics and webtoons with citizens.

The event will be held across the 2nd-floor exhibition hall, lobby, and Modelak Theater of the library. Featuring approximately 250 comic books and webtoons along with seven related programs, it aims to create a platform for communication between creators and readers while promoting the artistic value of comic content within the local community.

A ‘physical acquisition exhibition’ allows visitors to directly touch and experience actual books, and Busan Metropolitan Library has been hosting this format annually since 2023.

This exhibition highlights a wide spectrum of works, from widely popular webtoons to artistically distinguished graphic novels—comics that convey deep, novel-like storytelling. Its main components include a book exhibition and comic lounge, hands-on experience zones, live drawing performances, and author lectures and creative workshops.

In particular, the “Comic Lounge” on the 2nd floor offers a relaxing space where visitors can freely read the displayed books, while the 1st-floor lobby features an ongoing hands-on activity where participants can create their own comics using character templates.

In addition, a variety of educational programs linked to the exhibition will be offered, including creative workshops, drawing performances, and talk shows.

On May 23, May 30, and June 13, authors Kim Hyun-ju, Park Hyun-ju, and Lee So-mi will lead a series of creative workshops for citizens, covering topics such as “Writing a Comic Diary,” “Creating an Autobiography Through Comics,” and “Comic Character Creation.”

On May 28, author Lee Tae-yoon will conduct a special lecture titled “Rediscovering Comics in Libraries” for librarians, related personnel, and interested citizens, exploring the characteristics of the comic genre and effective collection development strategies.

On May 30, Nam Jeong-hun, General Director of the Busan Global Webtoon Festival, will host a live drawing performance and talk show, offering a vivid look into the life and creative process of a comic artist. On June 7, author Ko Dong-gyun will introduce the practical process of webtoon production.

The exhibition will be open daily from 10:00 to 17:00, excluding Mondays and public holidays, and admission is free for all visitors.
