Domoheon Surpasses 500,000 Visitors in 1 Year and 7 Months Since Full Opening… Family Month Cultural Events and Jazz Performances to Be Held

Busan Metropolitan City (Mayor Park Heong-joon) announced that Domoheon, a complex cultural space returned to citizens after 40 years, surpassed a cumulative total of 500,000 visitors yesterday (April 22), just 1 year and 7 months after its opening.

This milestone is the result of remodeling the former mayoral residence—once a symbol of authority—into a complex cultural space integrating culture, exhibitions, and education, followed by its full opening to the public in September 2024 after 40 years, and the continuous development and operation of diverse programs such as Domoheon Busan School and special curated exhibitions.

Based on its opening concept of “Walk, Stay, Remember,” Domoheon has established itself as a complex cultural space encompassing exhibitions, lectures, performances, experiential programs, and relaxation areas.

Through initiatives such as collaborative exhibition projects with institutions; educational programs including “Busan School,” “Busan Story,” specialty coffee lectures, and Deullak Nallak programs; and citizen participation programs such as garden programs, culture, arts, and meditation programs, the SosoPung Festival, and family love events, the venue has provided opportunities for citizens to enjoy both nature and culture within the city.

Meanwhile, to celebrate reaching 500,000 visitors and to mark Family Month in May, Busan Metropolitan City will host a variety of cultural events at Domoheon.

The events will take place over two days, from May 2 to 3, throughout the Domoheon area, and will be open free of charge to all citizens, families, and visitors (some programs require reservations via the website or on-site registration).

The event will feature a wide range of family-friendly programs, including the original children’s play “Peter Pan,” magic performances, fusion traditional music, Family Month concerts, a large canvas wall performance, experience booths, SosoPung garden programs, and photo zones.

In particular, on May 2 and 3 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM (two sessions in total), visitors to Domoheon will move through the space and experience interactive popup booths (photo zones) recreating key scenes from the story of Peter Pan, where they can interact with actors and take photos. This will be followed by a free performance of the original children’s play “Peter Pan,” based on the original work, at the main stage of the SosoPung Garden.

Additionally, under the theme “Spring at Domoheon, Encountering Nature,” a special “SosoPung Garden Program” will be operated, where families can create their own miniature gardens.

Furthermore, in celebration of Children’s Day, the city will specially open Domoheon to the public on May 5, despite it being a regular closure day.

On that day, the main building, SosoPung Garden, and the café within Domoheon will be open, and for visitor convenience, the Domoheon shuttle bus and dedicated parking lot will be operated free of charge.

On May 5, there will be no separate events; only the space will be open from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM. The Deullak Nallak Children’s Library at the main gate entrance will be closed on that day.

In addition, Busan Metropolitan City will expand last year’s highly popular monthly outdoor jazz performances into “Busan, Immersed in Jazz 2,” which will be held from April 25 to October 31, on the last Saturday of each month, at the SosoPung Garden area of Domoheon.

This performance series marks the second season of last year’s program and will be operated as a picnic-style lifestyle cultural performance. It will feature collaborative stages by domestic and international artists as well as local Busan musicians, offering citizens a relaxing and emotionally enriching cultural experience.

The city also plans to further develop Domoheon into a richer and more diverse space through upcoming initiatives such as the Busan Mobility Special Exhibition, additional curated exhibitions, and the creation of a year-end garden village.

Mayor Park Heong-joon stated, “It is very meaningful that Domoheon has reached the significant milestone of 500,000 visitors through the footsteps and memories of each citizen,” adding, “We hope that Domoheon will continue to serve as a warm space where people can take a moment to rest in their daily lives, share laughter with their families, and create their own stories.”
