Busan Metropolitan City Conducts Final Inspection of Preparations for The 55th National Junior Sports Festival and the 20th National Youth Para Games… “All Set for the Games”

Busan Metropolitan City (Mayor Park Heong-joon) announced that it will hold the second (final) preparatory status briefing (hereinafter referred to as the briefing) at 10:00 a.m. today (23rd) in the main conference hall on the first floor of City Hall to ensure the successful hosting of the 2026 The 55th National Junior Sports Festival and the 20th National Youth Para Games.

In preparation for the successful hosting of The 55th National Junior Sports Festival and the 20th National Youth Para Games, a nationwide youth sports event to be held in Busan this May, the city will continue to devote its utmost efforts until the end, mobilizing all available capabilities in close collaboration with the Office of Education, the Police Agency, district offices, and sports associations under a unified “One Team” approach.

The briefing serves as the final inspection meeting, held 19 days before the opening of the games. It will include a comprehensive report on preparation status by the organizing team, a presentation on the opening ceremony production plan, reviews of preparation status by related organizations, and discussions on remaining tasks and cooperation measures.

The meeting will be presided over by Vice Mayor for Administrative Affairs Kim Kyung-duk and attended by approximately 50 participants, including officials from all offices, bureaus, and headquarters, district offices, the Busan Office of Education, the Busan Metropolitan Police Agency, the Busan Sports Council, and the Busan Para Sports Association. Following a preparation status report by the head of the National Sports Festival Planning Team, the program will proceed with a briefing on the opening ceremony production plan, reports on detailed implementation plans by major executing bodies, the police, district offices, and both sports associations, followed by discussions.

In the comprehensive preparation status report, the head of the National Sports Festival Planning Team will present the overall progress, including the status of venues, preparations for welcoming spectators and athletes, and detailed arrangements in key areas such as safety, transportation, and logistics.

During the opening ceremony production briefing, the production team will present the theme, direction, and composition of the ceremonies for both the 20th National Youth Para Games and The 55th National Junior Sports Festival, the latter being held again in a pre-event format after 16 years.

In the reports by major executing bodies, each organization will present its preparation status and implementation plans.

In the final discussion session, all participants will review key issues identified during the preparation process and remaining tasks, and derive cooperative measures to ensure the successful hosting of the events.

Through this final briefing, the city plans to further strengthen its close cooperation system with executing bodies and related organizations, address any remaining shortcomings, and ensure the successful hosting of the 20th National Youth Para Games—being held in Busan for the first time—and The 55th National Junior Sports Festival, returning after 25 years.

Vice Mayor for Administrative Affairs Kim Kyung-duk stated, “As this is a meaningful festival where promising young athletes from across the country gather, we will conduct thorough final inspections to ensure that participating athletes and citizens can enjoy the event safely and pleasantly,” adding, “Through the successful hosting of the games, we will once again demonstrate Busan’s dynamic capabilities.”

He also added, “Active participation and warm cooperation from our citizens will be a great source of strength for the successful hosting of the events,” and called for continued interest and support from the public.
