No Cavities Found in Mandek–Centum Section Following GPR Survey and Detailed Investigation of Pavement Subsidence near Naeseong–Suyeong Riverside Underpass

Busan Metropolitan City, led by Mayor Park Heong-joon, announced that following a ground-penetrating radar (GPR) survey and detailed investigation conducted from April 5 to 7 by the Korea Authority of Land and Infrastructure Safety under the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, no cavities were found in the recently subsided pavement section (approximately 5–7 cm) and surrounding roads near the Mandek–Centum Urban Expressway, where the incident occurred on April 5. However, three minor cavities were identified in existing roads outside the construction impact zone.

The GPR survey covered not only the Mandek–Centum road construction section but also areas beyond the construction boundaries. As no cavities were found within the construction zone, concerns regarding potential ground subsidence are expected to be alleviated.

Although three minor cavities (with depths of approximately 7–15 cm) were identified outside the construction impact area, the city immediately notified the relevant road management authority to ensure public safety. After confirming the causes through excavation and other investigative measures, prompt restoration will be carried out.

In addition, Busan Metropolitan City plans to continue implementing GPR-based monitoring along the Mandek–Centum Urban Expressway. Regular GPR surveys will also be conducted around sections vulnerable to ground subsidence, such as open-cut construction areas near interchanges (ICs), along with visual inspections by road management authorities. Through thorough safety management and proactive measures in response to any signs of abnormalities, the city aims to minimize inconvenience to citizens.
