Busan Metropolitan City to Hold the 66th Anniversary Commemoration Ceremony of the April 19 Revolution

Busan Metropolitan City, led by Mayor Park Heong-joon, announced that it will hold the 66th Anniversary Commemoration Ceremony of the April 19 Revolution on April 19 at 10:00 at the plaza in front of the Memorial Tower for the Victims of the Democratic Revolution at Jungang Park.

The ceremony will be attended by approximately 100 people, including distinguished contributors to the April 19 Revolution and their bereaved families, Mayor Park Heong-joon, Busan Metropolitan Council Chair An Seong-min, Superintendent of Education Kim Seok-jun, local National Assembly members, and heads of major institutions, who will gather to honor the noble spirit of sacrifice demonstrated by those who contributed to the revolution.

The ceremony will proceed in the following order: the national ceremony, a moment of silence in honor of the patriotic martyrs and victims of the April 19 Revolution, wreath-laying and incense offering, a report on the progress of the revolution, an awards presentation, a commemorative address by Mayor Park Heong-joon, a memorial performance by the Busan Metropolitan Dance Company, and a memorial chorus by the Busan Metropolitan Choir.

In addition to the main ceremony, various events commemorating the April 19 Revolution will take place across Busan.

On April 18 at 13:00, a memorial rite for the victims of the revolution marking the 66th anniversary was held at the Memorial Hall for the Victims of the April 19 Revolution at Jungang Park. On April 19 at 10:00, a memorial service for martyr Shin Jeong-yung will be held in front of his memorial monument, and on April 20 at 10:00, a memorial service for martyr Kang Su-yeong will be held in front of his statue.

Mayor Park Heong-joon is expected to state in his commemorative address that the April 19 Revolution was a great turning point that corrected the course of history through the power of the people and laid the foundation for democracy in the Republic of Korea, and that Busan stood at the center of that movement. He will also emphasize that the courage and solidarity demonstrated by Busan’s students and citizens at the time remain valuable democratic assets that continue to this day.

He is also expected to add that Busan Metropolitan City will deeply honor the noble sacrifices of the democratic martyrs, reaffirm the values of freedom and democracy together with its citizens, and make every effort to properly inherit and develop the spirit of the April 19 Revolution so that it can be passed on to future generations.
