Busan Metropolitan City Announces Call for Submissions for the “2026 Busan Cultural Message Board – Summer Edition”

Busan Metropolitan City (Mayor Park Heong-joon) announced that it will accept submissions for the summer edition of the “Busan Cultural Message Board,” to be displayed on the exterior wall of City Hall, from today (April 8) through April 22.

The Busan Cultural Message Board, launched in 2010, is a citizen-participatory public design initiative. It features seasonal phrases proposed by citizens on the exterior wall of City Hall, serving as a channel of communication with residents and promoting a shared cultural sentiment within the urban environment.

Anyone who loves Busan may participate in the contest. Submissions must be Korean phrases of 25 characters or fewer that convey hope, love, and warmth to citizens.

Submitted phrases may be original creations by the applicant or excerpts from literary works.

Applications can be submitted via the city website under the “Events/Recruitment” section (www.busan.go.kr/minwon/occation). Alternatively, applicants may complete the application form provided in the official notice and submit it via email (leesu107@korea.kr) or by mail to: Busan Metropolitan City Hall, 1001 Jungang-daero, Yeonje-gu, Busan (18th Floor, Urban Public Design Division, Busan Cultural Message Board).

When submitting an excerpt, the source must be clearly indicated.

Winning entries and honorable mentions will be selected through evaluation by the Busan Writers’ Association and the Future Design Headquarters of Busan Metropolitan City. The selected winning phrase will undergo design work and be displayed on the exterior wall of City Hall starting in early June 2026, welcoming the new summer season.

The winning entry will receive a cultural gift certificate worth KRW 500,000, while six honorable mentions will each receive a cultural gift certificate worth KRW 50,000.

Moon Jeong-ju, Head of the Future Design Headquarters, stated, “The Busan Cultural Message Board is a space for communication in the city where the thoughts and emotions of Busan citizens can be shared alongside the changing seasons.” He added, “Through this summer edition contest, we hope to reflect the vibrant transformation of the cityscape as we welcome a refreshing summer, and we encourage great interest and participation.”
