Busan Metropolitan City to Host the 54th Health Day Commemoration Ceremony: Mayor Park Heong-joon Pledges to Build a Healthy City of Busan

Busan Metropolitan City (Mayor Park Heong-joon) announced that it will hold the “54th Health Day Commemoration Ceremony” today (the 7th) at 10:30 a.m. in the City Hall Grand Auditorium in observance of World Health Day (April 7).

World Health Day was established by the World Health Organization (WHO) to commemorate its founding anniversary (April 7, 1948), and in Korea, April 7 has been designated and observed as Health Day since 1973.

The ceremony will be attended by approximately 500 participants, including Mayor Park Heong-joon, the President of the Busan Metropolitan City Hospital Association, executives and staff of healthcare organizations, public officials, and citizens. The program will proceed in the following order: presentation of awards for meritorious service, commemorative and congratulatory remarks, and a celebratory performance by the Busan City Choir.

This year’s ceremony, held under the theme “A Society Where Health is Fundamental, a Republic of Korea Enjoyed by All,” is organized to express appreciation for the dedication of healthcare professionals who faithfully carry out their roles on the front lines to protect citizens’ health, while also reaffirming the importance of public health.

At the awards ceremony, a total of 38 individuals (27 healthcare professionals and 11 public officials) who have contributed to the promotion of citizens’ health and the advancement of the healthcare sector will receive commendations from the Mayor of Busan Metropolitan City.

The award recipients have been selected in recognition of their contributions in safeguarding citizens’ lives and health and for their steadfast support of local healthcare services in their respective positions.

Meanwhile, Busan Metropolitan City is promoting policies to respond to the evolving healthcare environment—including population aging, the rise in chronic diseases, and the need to address infectious diseases—by establishing a community-centered health management system that links prevention, treatment, and care. The city also continues its efforts to improve healthcare conditions so that citizens can access necessary medical services in a timely manner.

Mayor Park Heong-joon stated, “I extend my deepest gratitude to healthcare professionals who are protecting Busan’s public health on the front lines to safeguard the lives and health of our citizens,” adding, “We will further strengthen the responsibility of public healthcare and ensure that no one is left behind, as we carefully work toward building a healthy city of Busan where everyone can feel secure.”
