Busan Metropolitan City announced that traffic restrictions on the access roads to the Suyeonggang Riverside Underpass, which had been imposed following the discovery of road subsidence, were lifted, and normal operations resumed at 22:50 on April 5.

Earlier, after a report of subsidence at the Suyeonggang Riverside Underpass was received, the city restricted traffic from 17:00 on April 5 and conducted a ground-penetrating radar (GPR) survey at the site until 20:59. Restoration work, including asphalt paving, was subsequently completed. A preliminary analysis of the GPR survey results found no risk factors such as cavities.

In addition, excavation work is currently underway from 19:00 on April 5 on the access roads to the Naeseong Underpass to identify any potential risk factors, and the roads are scheduled to reopen before 07:00 on April 6.

The city also plans to conduct additional ground investigations and continuous monitoring in the Naeseong Underpass area to detect any potential risks.

Meanwhile, to respond to the road subsidence affecting the access roads of both the Naeseong Underpass and the Suyeonggang Riverside Underpass, Busan Metropolitan City convened an emergency situation assessment meeting at 18:38 on April 5 in the Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters situation room at City Hall.

The meeting, presided over by the Assistant Mayor of Citizen Safety Office, discussed assessments of ground risk levels and emergency response measures following the occurrence of road subsidence on the access roads to both underpasses.

Mayor Park Heong-joon emphasized that, as this issue is directly related to the safety of Busan citizens, a thorough investigation must be conducted to identify the cause and prevent recurrence. He also stated that all-out efforts will be made to minimize inconvenience to citizens, particularly during the morning commute.
