Busan Metropolitan City to Host “2026 Construction and Transportation New Technology Exhibition”

Busan Metropolitan City (Mayor Park Heong-joon) announced that it will host the “2026 Busan Metropolitan City Construction and Transportation New Technology Exhibition” today (April 2) from 10:00 to 17:00 at the City Hall’s 1st-floor Grand Conference Room and lobby, in order to promote and facilitate the use of outstanding construction new technologies and to support growth engines for local small and medium-sized enterprises.

The exhibition is hosted by the city and jointly organized by the Korea Association for Construction & Transportation New Technologies, the New Technology Promotion Institute, and the Korea Agency for Infrastructure Technology Advancement. A total of 40 companies (67 new technologies) will participate, operating 43 booths.

In particular, seven companies from the Busan region will participate, presenting 10 new technologies. To expand the participation of local companies, the city fully subsidizes participation fees for Busan-based firms, thereby broadening opportunities for SMEs to promote their technological capabilities.

At this year’s exhibition, an “MOU Signing Ceremony for the Development and Promotion of Construction New Technologies” between the city and the Korea Association for Construction & Transportation New Technologies will also take place.

The MOU signing ceremony will be held at 11:00 in the City Hall’s 1st-floor Grand Conference Room, in conjunction with the exhibition’s opening ceremony. It will serve to formalize a cooperative framework for developing construction new technologies, strengthening competitiveness, promoting on-site application of new technologies within the region, and hosting related briefings and exhibitions.

Through this agreement, the city plans to strengthen information exchange and promotion of construction new technologies, enhance private-sector motivation for technological development, and establish a foundation for the sustainable growth of the regional construction industry.

In addition, starting this year, the “Meritorious Contribution Awards for the Promotion of Construction New Technologies” have been newly established. The mayor’s commendation will be awarded to three individuals who have contributed to the development and application of construction new technologies.

The award recipients are: Lee Chang-uk, CEO of Ewang Korea Co., Ltd., who developed a trenchless repair and reinforcement method for sewer pipelines (Construction New Technology No. 851), contributing to improved maintenance efficiency and cost savings for aging sewer systems; Kim Jung-hoon, CEO of ABM Co., Ltd., who pioneered energy self-sufficiency and the spread of renewable energy through Korea’s first Building Integrated Photovoltaics (BIPV) technology (No. 832); and Hwang Seong-do, CEO of Korea Lightech Development Co., Ltd., who developed and disseminated a trenchless full repair method for sewer pipelines using UV irradiation robots and automated curing systems (No. 949), contributing to enhanced urban infrastructure maintenance.

The city expects that the introduction of these awards will boost the morale of local new technology developers and serve as an important turning point in spreading a culture of new technologies rooted in the field.

Furthermore, from 13:00, a “Construction Technology Seminar” will be held in the City Hall’s 1st-floor auditorium for public officials involved in construction projects and construction engineers.

Hosted by the Korea Association of Construction Engineers, the seminar will feature in-depth lectures and presentations aimed at strengthening construction technology capabilities, including smart construction technologies utilizing artificial intelligence (AI), explanations of new technology systems, and disaster and facility safety management technologies using mobility equipment.

In particular, by holding both the new technology exhibition and the construction technology seminar on the same day, the event is designed to allow participants to move between exhibition and training sessions, creating a mutually beneficial synergy.

Lim Kyung-mo, Assistant Mayor of Urban Innovation and Balanced Development Office, stated, “We hope that this new technology exhibition, along with the newly introduced MOU and award system, will serve as a catalyst for encouraging voluntary technological development of outstanding new technologies in the Busan region and further strengthening the competitiveness of SMEs,” adding, “We will continue to actively support the development of innovative technologies by local construction companies and strengthen cooperation among industry, academia, research institutions, and government to elevate the competitiveness of the regional construction industry to the next level.”
